3 car plus tandem

Moved in to this house almost 2 years ago. One of the reasons I bought the house was because of the 3 car garage with a 21x10 tandem in the back. Not really usefull for a 4th car, but great shop space. Started off kind of simple, drywalled the ceiling, built work benches out of plywood and 2x4s and it worked pretty well for a while. Till recently, I started doing some research on some garage cabinets which lead me to this forum. This dangerous expensive forum... So step one in this garage makeover is to build up the tandem shop area, once done, I'll continue on to the rest. Here are some pictures of the pseudo before:

I think that Craftsman toolbox will stay in the main garage. Not sure what to do with that fold up table saw and pressure washer. Really wish I could hide those somehow.

Still trying to figure out how to best utilize that slat wall. I have 2 more I'm trying to find space for.

Had my computer in the garage but only use it to play Pandora. Recently moved an Amazon Echo in there so not sure the PC will make it into the remodel. thoughts?

Finally got around to building a Keezer. This will some day feed the bar in the basement. For now, gotta go to the garage to get the goods.

Having a computer in the shop is really handy for looking up parts or disassembly procedures. I keep an older laptop around for just such a purpose.

I was thinking the same thing, but find myself constantly just going in to my office which is just inside the garage. Would rather stay in the garage so I don't track in dirt when in the middle of tearing things apart. Maybe an old laptop is the answer. Doesn't take much room and can be moved around.

On order right now are NewAge Pro 3.0 cabinets and tops to replace where the wood bench is, as well as RaceDeck flooring. Great discount from those guys for us members. Can't afford to floor the entire garage right now, but will at least be able to do that shop part. Going with the FreeFlow XL tiles.

That would be awesome but straight back from there is about 15' off the ground from a walkout basement.

Hey don't blame the forum. Technically it's free (to join).
The expenditures come from one trying to keep up with the GJoneses. Once you know what you didn't previously know you needed it can get expensive.
What type of kegs are in the Keezer?

Very true, through this forum, I'm finding all those things I didn't realize I needed. :)

Just threw the keezer together a couple weeks ago. Once I build the hoist, I'll take it apart and finish it. First kegs are a 6th of Avery White Rascal and a half of Angry Orchard (wife is a glutard, although I think I drink more of that than she does). Have room in there for 2 more halfs easy.

****, I need to get a move on with paint. Just got notice that a couple thousand pounds of cabinets are on a truck making their way to CO.

So with the cabinets coming in, I have some questions to you all. I have a 6.5" (footing?) on 2 of the 3 walls in that part of the garage. The cabinets need to sit flush with the wall in order to fit. But to do that, i was thinking of not installing the rear feet so they just rest on that footing and having the front feet extended all the way down for support on the front. Problem is, even with the RD flooring, I'm about 1/2" short from getting front support. Do you guys think front support is needed with the NewAge Pro 3.0 cabinets to get that 1000 pound capacity they say they can hold? Or should I put a footing down to give some support in the front? Here is an example of one of the lockers:

Cabinets are starting to arrive! These cabinets are STOUT. excited to see how the tool drawers stack up.

Was really hoping the RaceDeck floor would be here first. I guess someone swooped in and bought all the black Freeflow XL tiles from the warehouse putting my order on old for now. :-(

I have officially lost use of my garage. Need to get those walls finished back there. Wife is not going to be happy with parking in the driveway.

Finally got some progress in there this weekend. My original design was really going to push that back wall to a point where I was considering cutting drywall to make it fit. But after getting 3 cabinets I was an inch short with only 1/2" drywall.
Old%20layout_zps280eoqcb.jpg

So now design number 2 I'm moving the two lockers to the other side and having a row of cabinets on the back. I really like the way this looks. Just need to find a use for that half foot in the corner that's not used. Hoping to get them all done this weekend.

This is one of my customer's cabinet set. He mounted his cabinets directly to the wall. Ideally the front feet hitting the floor will add to the capacity of the cabinet. You can easily mount these without the front feet.

In my garage I built a platform the height of the cement sill, scribed the front to match the floor slant. Then had a level platform to set the cabinets on without using the feet at all.

^I was actually surprised at how sturdy these things are when mounted to the wall. Before I moved the big cabinet it easily held my fat 245 pound *** jumping around inside the cabinet when mounted to the wall with no give. I actually think I'm going to leave them off the floor without frontal support to give me more storage for jacks and whatnot underneath them.

Wow, thats an awesome layout. That extra tandem bay is perfect for loading up and absorbing those bulky items. Nice job!

I would love it if ROKU actually had a browser function

Thanks man. You know my search on racedeck flooring led me to your post which I had to read both your single and double thread which lead me over to Chads thread and of course had to read all of that. I'd have to say yours and Chads garages are what's inspiring me to finally get moving. Love the attention to detail you guys put in your spaces. Hoping I can replicate.

I'm currently speaking with a production home builder about purchasing a build to order home and having them quote out a garage expansion that is exactly this. Standard garage is 3 car 30w x 21 deep (same as our current house in a different area), but there is open space behind the 3rd stall in this plan. So I'm having them add 23 feet to the 3rd stall to line up with the rear of the house. Adds a 15x23' rectangle behind the 3rd stall. So I can have a decent workbench plus toy storage. In addition, the garage has 10' ceilings, so in theory I could put a lift in for toy car storage. I know the expansion will be expensive, but really hope it comes within budget.

Finally got the cabinets hung. room is too narrow to get decent pictures, and I still have quite a bit of work to do in there, but what a huge improvement these things make. Love the space now.

Also, one of the cabinets was going to sit over an outlet. Was thinking of just taking it out and capping the wires, but a little work with an angle grinder and I was able to do this
Inside%20lockers_zps6qu6t3ih.jpg

Haven't actually run it in there yet. Not sure about vibrations with all the cabinets connected. Would really like to put an exhaust fan and insulate the inside with some egg crate foam so I can run it with the door shut. We'll see. Worse case, I am running some rapid air 'hardline' from inside there up through the wall to a drop in the main garage between the doors.

15x23 would be AWESOME! especially with a 10' ceiling. This space I have is only 10x21 with 8.5' ceiling. A good work shop, but no way could I put a car or lift back there with room to work. If you end up getting that and building it up, please put a link to that thread here so it'll alert me when it happens. Would love to read about it.

What's your plan for the bare wall on the right (in the photo above)?

The keezer has 3 cabinets above it, so nothing between that and the keezer to allow for keg removal. To the left of that (toward the back wall) I'll put a couple of the 4x4 slat walls back up. Contemplating on putting all 4 in that space so I have an 8x8 section of slat wall for hanging stuff that just doesn't fit in a cabinet.

The cabinets are nice! I wish I had put something along those lines in mine. I have a three car with a two car tandem, two rather small cars anyway. Once I put up cabinets and utilized the wall space for big tools like the press and drill press it's more like a four car capacity with #4 turned sideways in the back.

The NewAge cabinets look great. Can you post pictures of the inside of the tool drawers? I'm looking for a photo of the drawer dividers in place. Also the multi use base cabinet opened up. The bottom slide out bins hold a trash can and plastic bins. It would be nice to see them in action.

Thanks

Love the multi drawer. Helped keep parts for installing the cabinets in their own spot for easy access. Not sure what will go in there now that they're hung.

Pardon the mess. Still haven't really cleaned up from the install.

All the usefull little bins. Love how easy they are to pull out and put back.

Garbage bin which for some reason is one of my favorite parts. Like I'm too lazy to walk across the garage to throw stuff away.

Brand of cabinets? How do you like the drawers set up?

These are the NewAge Pro 3 series and I absolutely love them. The drawers in the corner, I thought would run in to each other, but I have yet to have the problem. Also like the soft close, so it's rare that I'd leave one partially open to run the opposite side in to.

Put some under cabinet lights in there. One problem with the stainless top is that any light that points down glares off the stainless. So I used a philips hue LED strip and attached it to the back side of the little guard things pointing to the back wall. Works really nicely.

That sounds like a great space. Do you have a link to your garage. Would like to take a look.
