Evening all,
Picked up a old drill press from a guy and received a box of extra parts. In the box were the following items which are unknown to me. Guy was a machinist, with several old laths and presses and such which may help.
Know someone here will have answers for these.
First is Starrett pliers of some kind? :dunno:

Unknown Starrett 2.JPG
Second appears to have been mounted in a tool holder of some sort? :dunno:

The Starrett is a pair of ridiculously high quality nippers/cutters. Starrett manufacturers them in two lengths, and with at least two different types of jaws. One type is meant for cutting Piano wire, or other high tensile wire. The other type is meant for cutting or nipping glass or tile, and is usually fitted with carbide blades. When the blades get worn or chipped its possible to regrind them and adjust their position so they still cut properly.

The Starrett No. 65 Center Finder is no longer made. It is also called a wiggler. It is a 12" long rod, pivoted close to one end. It is used for quick centering of center punched work in the four jaw.

The short end is placed in a center punch mark, and the long end is referenced to a center in the tailstock. The work and the center finder are manipulated until there is no apparent movement of the long end relative to the tailstock center.

These are great for the purpose, and much faster to use than an indicator.

The second tool is a center finder as described above. The above unit is Starrett but operates the same.
Here is the tool in use There is also a link on the above page to how the wiggler was made.

The bottom devise is a lock pin for a dividing head or indexer I believe.

Thanks Guys! Knew the collective would know.
Now when I want to cut my piano wire, I will have the right tool!
The wiggler was a new one to me, but I can understand how it would work. Interesting.

Have to admit, I did not know what a dividing head is. (Thanks Wikipedia) Still don't know how this would have fit in or been used.
Thanks.
