3-phase motor question

Was just reading a couple things trying to educate myself a little better on 3-phase power. The article mentioned 3 phase motors are more compact than a comparative single phase motor. Why would that be?

I understand why they are more efficient.....the size thing throws confuses me though. Thanks

no need for start capacitors, since there are 3 windings instead of 2 they don't need to be able to carry as large of current as a similar sized single phase.

there usually about 2/3rd the size of the single phase, as said before, no cap's, also dont need to FOOL the motor into making a rotation field to turn, depending on type, alot less parts , moving parts, there actually a more simple design then the weird force it to work singles
