Delta scroll saw, model DSS2 and I can't find a manual for this one. I need to find out what motor will be correct for running the scroll saw, and what saw blades this takes.

Thanks for any help.

I'd say the same as Jake regarding a slower motor. Oil wise, pretty much whatever you have to hand, I'd personally say. Avoid the likes of 3-in-1 etc., but any motor oil or such should be fine.

DSS2 is just a part number for the rear casting.

Correct model is No. 700. It was Delta's first real full-sized machine tool, made from 1931 to 1938, although it was superseded by the model 1200 scroll saw in 1934.

The manual link jakemac posted is the correct one for your saw.

1/4 HP motor will work; 1/3 HP would be better. Use pulleys to give you a speed range (at the gearbox) of 600 to 1725 RPM. Slower end of the range for hard woods or thick sections, higher for soft woods or thin sections.

SAE 20 non-detergent oil for the gearbox.

Blades are standard 5" scroll saw blades.

Fixed up with a proper motor and with the reciprocating parts and blade guides in good condition and adjusted properly, that saw will outperform any currently-made scroll saw of any make.

Thank you for everything. I'm really happy with the tools and I want to have them operating correctly. I own a lot of tools that are made in the United States of America. I don't have any tools that are junk, and they are getting harder to locate.

Everyone on the forum, thanks for the help. I've used this form for research with other projects and I'm really thankful that you are around to help people restore old equipment and get them operational again.
