building a 3" turbo downpipe for my 4cyl front wheel drive racecar. curious as to where i should start with my TIG settings? it's 3" .065" wall 304 stainless. i am using an Eastwood TIG 200. i have a backpurge setup already, just never needed to weld this thin stuff before

I would start my test piece at about 40A the most critical thing is the speed and watching for a very slight boil wait to see it before you start moving, then its straight smoothe, steady & 90 Degrees to keep the 100% penetration and you should be able to do it in only two starts. Start at the bottom and go clear to the top then do the other side; good luck the first 20 or so try's.

300 series stainless has poor thermal expansion characteristics, which is why oem's use 400 series stainless.

Not as pretty but it works.

1/16" tungsten and biggest gas lens you can find. stainless loves Argon.

.045" 312 stainless steel filler wire.

thanks for the responses...

i've been told this by someone, but never knew the reason why this is, but why is it that you should always use a large cup for stainless, but small cup for aluminum? never understood it
