I would like to replace all the 35 year old toggle switches in the home with the newer paddle type of switches. My question concerns the wiring of the switches. Can I assume that the terminal locations on the old switches is going to be the same as the terminal locations on the new switches? When I wired the home 35 years ago, I had help with the 3 & 4 way switches, so I never learned exactly how they work. I don't want to get into this, only to find that I messed up something, and have to spend hours trying to fix what should have been a 1/2 or 1 hour job.
Thanks Junk

On the 3 ways just make sure to put put the same wire to the common/black screw, you'll be fine.

On 4 ways just make sure to use the same pairs on the top and bottom.
You can swith them from top to bottom, just make sure they're paired the same is all.
