Someone confirm....I was looking to put a 3 way Ball Valve inline....and split of cold to one direction and split off cold to another. The valve itself would just be a shutoff.

I cannot remember where but I believe it stated the 3 way valves are not meant for that sort of line-2 way split application. I cannot recall the specifics but it wasn't inferring it was a mixing, but just that for how I though a 3 way ball valve was, it could be used for how I intended. Something to the degree the handle orientation was meant to -temper- flow from port 1 vs port 2.

To control temperature or flow rate you need a mixing valve. A three way ball valve is only to be used to change flow completely from one port to the other, I.E. allow flow from port A to B or A to C. It's not meant to split flow between B & C from A.

There are a few different configurations for a 3 way valve. This page https://www.industrialspec.com/about-us/blog/detail/three-way-ball-valve-t-port-l-port-flow-patterns shows most of them. It also depends on what you want to do with the valve.
One input with two outputs which you choose output one or two.
Two inputs and one output where you select which input.
These are the two most basic configurations of a 3 way valve.

From there you can go to a 5 port valve where when switched the off port is vented and then into other configurations that get more specialized.

Thx Larry. No need to over-comlpicate the-valve-install. The place where I'm going to either end up sweating or IPS....is just tight/dense. For the application, where I would need 2 outputs off this *shutoff*, figuered the 3 way was the obvious choice.

Based on the other posts, it did confirm my origina inquiry that 3 ways were not meant for that app ?
