30" Gladiator Mounting Height

So I've acquired a few Gladiator cabinets over the past few months and am ready to mount them. 3 of them will go over my workbench, and I'm trying to determine how high to mount them. With my ceilings only being roughly 8' tall, I'm tempted to **** them up against the ceiling. My workbench is 41" tall, and this would leave me 2.5' between the workbench and the bottom of the cabinets. I'm only 5'8", so I know putting them up high may make that top shelf useless besides long term storage. I plan to also use that space between the workbench and cabinets as a pegboard area.

Would these be too tall if I put them that high? If I lower the 6-12", is that space going to be wasted and is it going to get really disgusting with spiders and such? My garage is by no means "clean", but I would like to avoid creating a breeding ground for them if possible. Thoughts?

**** them up against the ceiling...

If you don't the "soon-to-be-wasted" space above them will be overrun with all manner of creatures, and since it would be open, and out of sight, would become mouse/spider/roach/etc heaven very quickly...

I would seal it with caulking after I put them up...

I make use of the space above my Gladiator cabinets to store various items in boxes. The boxes have covers thus little-to-no bug issues. I covered the holes in the back of the cabinet with painters tape and used small advertisement magnets to block the holes on the sides to reduce the chances any insect making a home in the cabinet. Only the effing stink bug has ever been found in one of the cabinets......probably attracted to the motor oil stocked in that cabinet

I installed mine at the same height off the floor as my kitchen cabinets.

Thats a good idea.... That would also give me a good reference to see how I like the height and whether I think they will be too low or high.

This was my main concern. Living in TX, I keep the garage door open most of the time, and there are TONS of bugs that come in. Somehow they always make it in my lights, especially the large june bugs!

I went up to the ceiling joists with mine. I'm 6'1" and I can usually reach the top shelf inside the cabinet with a little stretch. The stuff I store on top of the cabinets is seldom use stuff. I also obviously have stuff stowed away in the rafters so I keep a step ladder handy in the shop anyway.

Mine are mounted 18" off the work surface. You can use the top of the cabinet for storage, I use mine for bike show awards.

If only I had ceiling that high! If I'm 18-24" off the table top, that only leaves 6-12" between the ceiling and cabinet. That's why I'm tempted to push it to the ceiling, because that will most likely be a wasted space. I'm going to use some blocks today that I can put the Gladiator on so I can get a better idea of the height. I have a feeling the bottom shelf will be easily accessible, middle will be a small stretch, and the top will require a step stool. It definitely doesn't help that I'm only 5'8".
