30 x 50 x ~14 Garage Build

I’ve been looking to do this for some time, as for the first time in 20 years, I have not had a garage when I bought my home 3+ years ago. What sold me on the house, was not so much the house, but the land. The drawbacks to the house were: end of a dirt road, NO GARAGE and a little further out than I wanted to have for my commute. 2 of the 3 items really have not been a problem and quite easy to ‘accept’. The garage? That one is being solved.... right.... NOW!!!

I actually started prepping for the garage the first week of owning the home. That entailed, clearing a ton of trees and enjoying numerous bonfires and plenty of liver lubricating beverages - aka... beer. Prepping, life, schedules and funds have played into delay after delay. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, and the process has begun. Build permit approved and things are now moving!

Much of the garage I will be doing myself, but I do know my limits and will, and have, hired some of the work out.

I hired the digging of the foundation and the forming/filling of the footing and frost walls. I’ll also be hiring out the setting of the trusses, since at 30’ of span and 2x10 joists - I am thinking they will be a bit unwieldy for a single guy to handle.

Other tidbits:
Went with Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF)
Will have half bath
Closed radiant floor system atop 4” foam board made of the same material as the ICF

I am currently digging a ~275’ trench from the power pole at the road to the right front corner of the garage.

Looks like everything is coming together nicely!

I just built myself a 30x50 last year and am currently in the process of running utilities. I also installed a simple closed radiant system and am looking forward to see your progress!

It’s been a busy couple of weeks with some downtime as well. Got the okay from the power company to run the conduit and start backfilling that line. This weekend was spent doing that work. Had some material brought in (sandy fill) to make sure the conduit rested on softness rather than rocks. I also cored the basement from the house where water/network/cable wires will run to the garage.

Today I got more material - stone and more sand. Hoping to have the hard-pack delivered later this week to start getting the inside of the foundation to the grade I need it,the exterior foundation back filled and the side driveway laid out. Once all that is done I’ll be able to start installing the radiant floor pex.
