if you ever work with blueprints you will appreciate the extra 6"... "standard" size is 30x42 but occasionally you will see 36x48

Is it going up against the wall or in the middle of the floor? If against the wall, 30". If in the middle of the floor, as wide as you have room for.

If you're putting it against a wall you might want to put a back lip on it at that depth. Unless you have specific plans like if you are making part of it sacrificial to drill holes for cords or mounting things or whatever.

It all depends on the what you intend to do in the workshop? OR Build the frame at 30" and the top at 36". If you find it to big whack 3" off each side.

I'd like 36" wide but I only have room for 30".

2-3" overhang gives you a great clamping surface to tie things down on the bench for fabrication and layout work.

Mine is 30"X96"...but, it's against the wall...

And I'm 6'4"...

If you've got the room, and the work bench/table is going in the middle of the space...

Wider is always better...48"X96" sounds OK to me...

If you've got the room...
