30 yo Speedaire Compressor-tank leak- UPDATE

Well...my very faithful Speedaire finally had it’s last pressurization. Tank leak on the end cap...pinhole.

Zero chance I will try to...well, you know...create a bomb by patching the tank good as new!

Wanting to have a good compressor...looking for thoughts on replacement...either tank or new unit.

The model no is 5Z001A...I have tried to find a replacement tank online...and most sites I found list as “no longer available”...

Anybody got any idea who may carry replacement tanks?

Uses...mostly running nail guns occasionally, tire fills, Impact gun on occasion...no real manly functions.

Not focused on cost...mostly like nice tools...so suggested are wanted. Looked thru other compressor threads...just looking for comment...thanks...

Pics of my very reliable Speedaire...

Well, bought a new tank...after some research I figured out that a newer Speedaire model has the same tank set up...with an almost identical mount system. Ordered thru Walmart from Zoro (cheaper)...pricey but made the swap over easy. I am going to cut open the old tank for giggles to check out the inside after 30 plus years.

New set up..

If all that's wrong with it after 30 years is a pinhole I hope you show him some love and fix it! Maybe even braze it if your worried about welding it. Or maybe welding will work. Definitely worth fixing it.

The tank is dead but if you look around you might find a used tank on Craigslist. My 20 gallon Westward tank sprang a leak. I found a 26 gallon vertical tank with no pump. I'm going to cut the top plate off the old compressor and bolt it to the top plate of the "new" tank.

bad advice. a leaking pressure vessel is not DIY repaired .
it's leaking because of rust, the tank is no longer safe to use for air pressure .

repurpose it into a smoker? yes

Man that is clean! I have a similar one in my area at work. It’s been run hard and neglected for many years and it looks like it.

You're not likely to find the same tank, but there are tons of compressors out there with bad motors and bad compressor pumps but good tanks. Just keep an eye out.

NOPE.

Unless you are full-up ASME certified AND have the full-up ASME certified procedures to follow for repair of a pressure vessel,

You Do Not Repair (weld, braze, screw jammed in the hole, whatever) a Pressure Vessel.

Turn the former-pressure vessel into a smoker or grill or yard art or whatever you want, but it is no longer an acceptable pressure vessel.

Sometimes Surplus Center has tanks and parts available that you can repurpose.

example that may or may not work in this case:
