$300 for this box seems high, no?

The seller keeps relisting it every few days for the same price, $300. I like the bottom chest, but the top one is so small. If he had a full size top chest I would really be interested, but I bought a 5 drawer bottom with storage compartment under the bottom drawer for $75 2 years ago, so I figure if his in in great condition it may be worth around $150. Does that seem reasonable?

Is it Quiet Glide or Ball Bearing? If Quiet Glide, then it was about $400 new.. They sell that top box for $99.99 new all day long. $79.99 on sale.. I agree with everyone else, no more than $150.

He said he paid $500 for all new. I don't think the bottom is very new, looks to be an older USA made model, no? Not sure about the top but fairly recent.

I paid $379 brand new for a ball bearing c-man from sears on 09 black friday.

Tell him just because he overpaid at $500, doesn't mean you want the same pounding.

I have a 10+ year old bottom chest just like that and it is pretty solid, The drawers on mine are quiet glide, but not grip latch.

I emailed him and tried not to sound insulting but told him I thought it was priced high and offered $100, we'll see if he responds.

Those thin dwr (8 or 10 dwrs) C'man bottom boxes are quite hard to find so $150 for both would be fair to me. Low would be $125 to $175 for both or $100 for the bottom box only would be fine.

I'd walk unless I could get the bottom for $125...maybe $150 if you really wanted it, but the top would be worth very little to me.

I highly doubt that is a griplatch, as it looks too old and usually there is a "griplatch" emblem in the left corner. Looks to be in average condition, I wouldn't pay more than 100-125

Drive over and see it in person before you "offer" the single Benjamin. He will be much more likely to accept your "low in his eyes" offer if your there in person, cash in hand. I can assure no one else has stopped by to see it. If he won't deal, put your cash back into your pocket and tell him your offer stands if he changes his mind, but that you will still be looking at other boxes.

Always the most sensible option .... Money talks BS walks :dunno:

I think you answered your own question, right there.

Good deals sell on CL in minutes. Overpriced stuff just gets relisted day after day after day.

Well said. That is why I inquired as to if there were any tools inside. Seems really high with no tools.

$300 is a little high. $200 would be fair, $150 is a decent deal. I got my FIL a similar set-up with middle box for $100. I paid a little more for this:

$500 for all. After selling off some of my other boxes, I've got less than that invested into all my boxes.

Thats like this box here, I have at work, I might sell it, or I might take it to the new building where I'll be working(99% sure), but I really don't need my tools there, just sort of want them there.
But if I do sell it, I won't take less than $300.00 for it.
It is a top Husky, and the bottom craftsman, and they are both real nice made boxes.

As an objective person here, I don't think you have any shot at getting $300 for them. If they were very nice, maybe, but not in that condition. Half of that is much more realistic, but that's just my $0.02

But your top box is more full-size than what he is selling and probably heavier duty too. What he has listed seems to be the newer cheapie box.

Hey what's the date code on your box? I want to know how old these boxes are.

This thread may be dead, but I stopped by my storage unit and took a picture of the tag inside the top drawer of my bottom chest, which is the same as the one in the OP.

Not compared to what you can get now at sears for $300.00.
You can get a POS for $300.00 at sears.
The bottom is heaver metal that what sears uses today.
Plus, the top box is the full 18" deep, not 12".
That box'(s) just need cleaned up, and I bet I can get $300.00.
And it's a better box that the HF 16 drawer combo unit.

$100-$150. $150 if someone had a gun to your head forcing you to buy it.

My buddy who i share a garage with has that exact set. He paid $50.

I've used it before. I do not like it. There's similar sized new CM setups at the Sears Outlet stores right now for $200 or less.

I got the same bottom box off Craigslist a while back for $125 with the older metal side folding shelf. Made 09/1986. I call it my birthday box. $300 is too high for it.

Picked up a 9 drawer full size top box and a 3 drawer full size mid box for $50 the next week.
Put the mid with another top box on my bench and put the ^ top box on top of the ^
^
Bottom one. Sweet Score!

I met a Lady today trying to sell a slightly smaller set for $485!!! I told her I couldn't swing it but she didn't bat an eye when I pulled out $800+ worth of impact sockets, wrenches, 24" Adjustable wrenches, whole set of Proto feeler gauges, Dial calipers, a conduit bender, a 1/2" Rigid pipe threader, a 5 shelf side box, 2 Klein deep small parts storage chests and a brand new midsize black fridge.... for $235!!!

The nameplates on the box in the original post appear to be the same as on my late 70's Craftsman setup. My top box is 16" deep 10 drawer and the bottom is (I think) 5 drawer with a storage cabinet under. Non roller slides but served me well since the late 70's with overloaded drawers and survived several moves of a few hundred miles with overloaded drawers. I paid about $500 in '78/'79 and you could not get the same quality today for twice that. It matters not, mine is not for sale. But the bottom box in that original post, if the same generation as mine, is worth the $300 based on the prices of the tinfoil, roller slide junk on plastic casters that you can buy for that price anywhere else. But that's just my opinion.
