Hey guys I wanted to share some progress of my 30x32 detached garage build! I have a few Mustangs I like to mess around with and also am getting into fabrication.

I was very limited on size and height due to my lot size and also city zoning restrictions. I ended up with a 30' wide by 32' deep with 10.5' walls and scissor trusses for a little extra height.

Here is the pad, 18" thickened edge, 4" thick except for the middle of the pad where it is 6" thick for a future lift.

Framing began, which was a little tricky since building code required me to "Balloon Frame" the gable ends for the scissor trusses.

The 16" glue lam beam showed up and we set it with a skid steer with forks. Also set trusses with a teleboom attachment on that skid steer. 5/8 osb on the roof for a little more strength and stability. Got the man door in, garage door size will be an 18x8!

Finished up the roof and also got the electrical banged out!

Ended up with 5 220v outlets
-air compressor
-2 welder
-lathe or mill
-car lift

And around 25 110v outlets.

Also bought 8 T8 LED fixtures with bulbs, 4 for each side of the vaulted ceiling.

While hooking up the electrical service from my house I also buried an air line to go to/from the detached garage and the attached garage. That way I can have air in my garage and not hear the compressor.

I ran speaker wire in the wall for 4 in wall speakers that will hopefully provide a clean look along with clean sound!

Although I don't know how well this idea will work, I gave it a try anyways: Ran my Maxline with an air fitting through my outside outlet box. I am hoping it will be a convenient place to hook up an air hose in addition to a reel by the garage door.

I also got my protrim up around my windows and door.

I ended up choosing LP Smartside lap siding for my garage, it went up fairly easy by myself. Especially with the use of the Gecko Guages.

Lastly, a picture of one of my projects that is waiting to go to the new garage once it is finished!

Thank you guys!

Wow, looks like a great workshop/playspace. Nice toy you have to put in there, too! From your location, I assume insulation and some kind of heat are in the future? Thanks for sharing

Still chipping away at the siding, the gables took some time and I honestly just got burnt out on doing siding.

Insulation is all done! R21 in the walls and R49 in the ceiling.

I put a light on a the side of the garage that illuminates a good part of the yard. Here it is lighting up some local wildlife!

Garage door is finally in! It is an insulated 18x8 with a Liftmaster 8500 side opener and tracks that follow the pitch of the ceiling. I am super happy with it and it frees up a lot of space overhead!

Sheetrock delivered! 5/8 for the back wall for fire rated purposes and 1/2 for the rest. I plan to do tuffrib steel on the ceiling.

I also started on the soffit and fascia. I ended up running 3 recessed can lights 4" diameter.

That is about all the progress for now. I need to order the steel for the ceiling, finish the drywall, and start mudding and taping.

Thank you guys for reading!

Hey guys I figured I would show a little bit about my hobbies and what I plan to do in my new garage!

This is my little turbo fox body, it has been a best of 10.68 in the 1/4 mile. I have been messing around with it and upgrading parts as required!

I built a lighter bumper support/crash bar for it as well as an aluminum catch can with built in baffle!

Also a few pictures of a stainless exhaust I did for it using a Vibrant race muffler and an exhaust for a RZR using a Vibrant muffler.

I hope to improve my welding and fabrication skills in the new garage and possibly get some more equipment!

What is the story w/ 5/8" on the back wall for a fire rating? I would think the ceiling would need the thicker sheetrock for fireproofing?

edit: forgot to say awesome garage and that I am jealous.

Nice build ! The tig pr0n is awesome too !

Thanks man! Stainless definitely comes out nice with the change of colors!

The city required it due to the set backs on the back wall not being far enough from a property line. It just required a 1 hour fire rated wall.

Also thank you! It is the result of some hard work!

What did your budget for the build of the garage come out to?

Looks fantastic, I especially like the look at night with the lights in the soffits...

Congrats thats a great space! Little details like the scissor trusses with the high clearance tracks and the exterior soffit lights show this was something planned out! Good luck with the final details and resisting the urge to move stuff before its done!

Thank you very much! I originally planned on around $30k, once I got into it I set a goal of $32,500, the little details that nickel and dime you end up adding up quickly. I believe I am right around $32k at the moment. That is doing almost everything myself except concrete.

I also made changes along the way I thought would be worth the money, like the siding. That one blew the budget lol.

I appreciate that! I wanted to do it right, the way I wanted it so I could have a space to enjoy for a long time! I was suppose to start on this over a year ago but after struggling with concrete guys and eventually getting blown off by one too late in the year, I had a lot more time to plan and get ideas.

Thank you! I really enjoy the fox bodies, it actually isn't my only one!

I am rocking the Lincoln square wave Tig 200, it is a pretty nice machine. It doesn't have near the variety of settings other Tigs do but it has treated me well.

We also started hanging the steel on the ceiling! It went up fairly easy. I got 11 sheets that were 16' long and 11 sheets that were 14' long. The 8ft led lights fit nicely in the low parts of the ribs. I just have to finish the peak and trim the outlet boxes. Sheetrock is all hung and ready for some tape and mud!

Thanks!

Thank you Jim! I will do my best!

Little update, finished the peak of the ceiling, got a few New Age Products Cabinets that were on sale, they had a little damage but they were great about taking care of it.

Also, a little project in the attached garage, I picked up this old Kellogg America air compressed a while ago. It worked but would trip the gfcis on 110v and the pressure switch leaked. I got a new pressure switch from Grainger and rewired it for 220v. It works well now and holds pressure in the tank! Next is a new base for it!

Finally a little update on the garage!

It took me most of the winter to tape, mud, prime, and paint but I finally got it done! I will also be running a dark grey metal about 4' up around the bottom of the walls.

I also coated the floors with Dayton J17 hard densifier and had it polished. There are still some light and dark spots which kind of ***** but I am told it can happen depending on how the concrete is cured and what not. Anyways I still like it!

Thanks!

Started putting my steel up around the bottom of the shop! It is a low profile in crinkle charcoal. I also got my tv hung! And included a few pictures of the first car in the garage, 1989 Mustang LX with some suspension and brake upgrades.

Got my Bendpak XPR10AS-LP 2 post lift installed and a car up on it! This will be a game changer and I am so excited! I also picked up a Quincy 60 gal single stage air compressor. This is the nicest compressor I have ever had and should be a nice upgrade from the old Kellogg.

Mounted up the Flexzilla extension cord reel next to my door also!

Are you 32 wide or 30 deep? I am in the process of trying to design my 30Wx32D with a 2 post as well. I will have the man door on the side and was thinking about custom ordering a 20' door if possible.

30 wide and 32 deep. My door is 18' offset to the lift side. A 20' wide door would be awesome or honestly two smaller doors would be the way to go if I did it over again.

Do you have a mfg of the steel panels you ran around the base? I really like the look and was thinking of doing similar in my barn, but doing the upper part of the wall in rough cut ship lap. Place looks great man keep it up!

I got it from my local guys at Protech Steel. Here is the info on it from their website. They call it a 3' Lo Pro Panel. It ends up looking really nice and has a "hidden S lock" that makes it look fairly seemless.

Thank you a lot!

Nice place you built yourself. Was the framing a kit?

It wasn't really a kit so to speak but I took my plans and dimensions to a local lumber yard and they figured out most everything I needed and delivered it all together. They were actually extremely helpful. I only had to make a few trips back to grab random things which was entirely oversight on my part!
