I would appreciate any pictures that you can share of the interior. So, the 6" blocks are really 5 1/2"? So does your exterior sheething overlap the block as well? If this is the case, when you apply your door trim, won't this create a 1/2" gap below the sheething? Just trying to figure all of this out for my build!

No, no gap inside or out. I don't have any close ups of the outside when it was open. All bricked now. Look at the 5th post. It shows the inside at the block. I had 5/8 osb on the exterior and 5/8 t-111 on the inside. I cut my own trim for the door and windows routed etc. so there was no problem there. 1x6 c&better worked great for the windows and spaced out to the interior wall and trim nicely. I'll try to get some better picts today and post later. I'm no carpenter but, when you can't find anyone to work, you gotta do the best you can!

Central, after further review:headscrat, I think you are talking about a gap behind the trim to the block wall. Pic is not very good here. I am ripping sm treated to fill this on all of the doors 'cause it's going to be a dirt catcher!

Here are a few more pictures as things are getting closer. Lift and work benches are soon to come. Afor the lights on the outside, DO NOT BUY FROM "Remodle Center" "Home center" and I think they have one or two other alasis. I ordered fixtures in March, got a reply that the ship date was June 21, canceled that instant, and still can't get my money or the lights!! I did get two out of the entire order. NO I am going through a charge back to get my money and I still don't have lights. Lesson learned...check eopinions before ordering!!!:shocking:

very nice!!! I like it.

What did you use for a brickledge around the perimeter?

How about over the garage doors? Did you have to upgrade the size of the garage door header to accommodated the brick?

Thanks Brad!
We used 4" block.
The header was an engineered beam and I'm not sure of the size. I can look it up if you need the information?

All I can say is WOW! Your garage turned out great!

If you don't mind me asking, at this point, what do you think you have invested into your garage?

We have a full-brick house as well and your dimensions and style are almost identical to what we are planning on building with the exception of the additional doors on the right side of your structure.

I did my own plans so-to-speak. Just measurements and drawing. The trusses were built and certified for the span. So far, I forgot to put the electrical conduit and water in thru the block. I'll have to do that the hard way. Here is where we are so far. Waiting on the brick because it is so cold this week.

Nice job on your garage. So nice, I think I want to add 5 feet to my 30x35 that I am planning. ...so a couple questions.

First, your trusses were certified for a 30ft span, what are the dimensions of the upstairs room and are there any restrictions on what you can put up there?

My design (self drawn) has a third beam supporting the center/bottom of the 10/12 pitch trusses. I'd sure like to take that out.

Second, odd question I think but someone must be thinking the same thing. Is it possible to put to "model vehicles" in the garage to give me a feel of what my 30x35 will offer when I am done? If you have a 96 dodge ram to use as a model vehicle, that would be great (kidding). :) If you'd rather not, that's okay too. I told you it was an odd question.

Thanks,
-Kevin

Not a problem! In fact, I'm working on that now in order to place a two post lift. BTW: Does anyone reading this know where the post for an asymmetrical lift would be in relation to a super cab pickup?
Kevin, I'm on duty today. I'll get you the information tomorrow afternoon.

Re-thinking my 10/12 pitch too...yours looks pretty good at 8/12 :headscrat

What an awesome garage! I like it a lot. Can you please tell us an approximate cost for your job, minus the brick work? I would like to build a similar garage, but I will probably go with siding instead of brick.

Thanks,
Ed

Thanks everyone!
Here are a few pictures I took today while trying to plan the lift. I can't seem to find the right spot...to close to door...to close to joint...maybe to far forward.
I had planned to use the third door bay but the framer used my space with the stairs. I wasn't planning them to use so much space so my footers for the lift are useless. I can get the truck in that area but no room at the right front tire.
The trusses were certified for the span and trippled near the stairs. They are 16"oc and there is 3/4 flooring for the rog. It is 40x12x8. Framer also added some braces. The ceiling turned out very stable. I have 1/2 inch osb on the ceiling with the metal over that. I would not use sheet rock for the ceiling if you are going to load the upstairs heavy.
I did some extras that increased the cost. 2x6 walls, 5/8 sheathing everywhere, 5/8 T-111 inside and did a lot of the work myself. I'd say you could do it for around 30 if you do some cuts here and there.

I have come back to this thread a couple of times. I really like the overall dimensions of your garage, and the placement of the three doors. Are you happy with the size and door placement. Anything you would do differently with the benefit of hindsight? Nice job!

Thanks,
Ed

Thanks, it's been a ^%(%&*(^ getting it done. Given the inside stairs, I would go from 40 to 45/46'. Keep that door 3/4 feet from the side wall. I did 3' and it worked out for my workbench. I had planned (and have footers) for a two post lift for that 3rd door. With the wide stairs, the truck would have it's right front tire beside the door to the air compressor/bathroom. Other than that, a better concrete guy and a faster framer:(
The bend pack acx will fit just under the ceiling at 12'6" as planned:thumbup:
I have decided to put it in the first bay, ahead of the red truck. That will put it out of the way when not in use and move whichever vehicle that goes on the lift up toward the work area at the third door.
Third door is working great for access and ventilation. I had no intention of keeping a car there and the tractor can be stored in several places depending on what I want to do. Oh, don't forget to put in the drain!
Let me know if I can be of help.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the feedback brassspike. I am still in the planning stages and trying to get as much information and ideas off this site as possible. Again, I like what you have done. Enjoy! I think someone already asked this (I did read the whole thing), but with those room-in-attic trusses and 8 in 12 roof, what are the inside dimensions of your second floor? What are your plans for the second floor?

Thanks,
Ed

40x12x8 Just using it for storage but it could be used for a work shop of some sort.

That is a beautiful garage. It's close to the same color bricks used on our house. I've been looking on here a long time to try and decide on what style (garage) to use and I like yours. Thanks for all the pictures.

Well folks, I finaly have the Bendpak in. The bad news is that a large developer is trying to build apartments and such all around us:mad:
As you can see, I built the ceiling for the lift and it was a tight fit. There was not much room for error!
I moved the location of the lift forward so that I could get in the man door and walk around the front of a vehicle parked in that bay. I have it now so that I can work arounf the vehicle without bumping the posts. If I want to work on the lift, I pull forward and this puts the front of the truck closer to my work bench etc. It's tough figureing all this stuff out.:headscrat

Looks great, seems like a perfect fit for the lift! I really like what you have done with the ceiling.

Which model of Bendpak is that?

Hi Brassspike - Anything going on in that new garage lately? Can you tell me a little more about the dimension of your stairs, including the amount of space they occupy on the first floor? Thanks, Ed

Hi Ed, I am at work tonight (FD) I'll get that measurement for you tomorrow. The stairs are a mixed blessing. Wide enough that I get most anything up but they do take up some space on the ground floor. The space below is utilized as compressor room/storage/potty room. I would go 5-5 feet longer and have both. 35-36x 40 would have been perfect.

It's been awhile since I have replied to this thread. I started my own Brassspike inspired garage. The footers were dug and poured today! It will be 30x48. I've come back to this thread many times for inspiration and ideas. Thank you for sharing.

Ed, I pumped the pooch on that answer. Long shift! it should be that it would have been better 30x45-6 feet....Or even 48!! That sounds great! Pictures??

I did the back corner like you are thinking. Mine is enclosed so there is storage below and the door keeps the heat downstairs. You are doing 48' so the stairs will not effect your third car from the side, if yours is configured like mine. I do like the way mine is set up, door wise. The stairs is 3' wide and I can get most anything up them and make the turn. I even store my step ladders in the platform odf the stair well.
Let us know when you start posting on yours and let me know if I can be of any help. Good Luck! Bill
