My dad is ready to have a stand-alone shed designed and built. He's thinking roughly 30x40 and 3 single car doors with room in front of the cars for work benches/tool boxes and a side area with a door and then a roll up rear door for tractors to get out (small garden tractors).

I was thinking it would be better to put a pair of oversized doors instead of 3 singles. Maybe a pair of 16'x8' doors with 9 foot ceilings?

I preferred singles on my 30x40. I have 2 - 9 x 8 overhead doors and 1 walk door in the front with 1 - 9 x 8 overhead and 1 walk door in the rear. It really all depends on the usage. I wanted vehicle access but a dedicated workshop space as well. I find the extra wall space more useful for me that the bigger double doors. The multiple doors front and rear are really nice for ventilation when the weather is good.

I have the 10' single door. Best friend has a 30x60 with double 16' doors. I definitely like his setup better. I like the looks of the 10' door better but it can be tight with a full size pickup especially backing in. Definitely go with 8' tall, buddy's is the standard 7'x16' and he can't back his boat into the garage.
