Longtime lurker, new member here. First off, huge fan of all the garages I've seen here from "sheds" to airplane hangars! Lost my home to flash flooding July 2013, relocated thanks to a loan from the SBA in October 2013. The wife, myself, & 3 kids lived in my brothers 38' camper from July to October until we got everything finalized. New place needed a garage, which required some dirt, estimated at 120 ton, ended up being around 200 ton. We initially wanted a 30x50, but once dirt was in place I didn't see it happening. Cut it down to a simple 30x40 the wife ok'd and we're all set. Now, the build:ImageUploadedByTapatalk1407467825.042049.jpg

I don't have a good pre-picture of the area where the garage is going. It'll be in the front of this pic. There is a 10x16 shed to the left of this pic that must be moved.

Building moved, dirt hauled in.

Some trusses done & some other things...

Ready for concrete tomorrow then all the metal next week. Then the fun really begins as I'll be doing all the electrical work. Think I've decided on 8 of the t8 two bulb fixtures. Will post more tomorrow! It's been a long process that I hope to be done soon! Thanks again!!

Didn't get much done tonight, but started prepping the area for the breaker box.

Here's the inside so far, trying to get my storage unit cleaned out too so I can stop paying someone else to hold my stuff.

Finally, outside progress, one wall/window/door remaining. Problem is contractor got the wrong entry door, so I'm going in the morning to pick up the right door & make sure there's no delay here.

I'm drooling here. If I had 3 bays on a 40' length and could open a car door without fear of hitting anything and maybe even have a 18-24" deep cabinets down the side I would probably die. LOL. But seriously, I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

I've got a project '77 CJ5 that will go in the far left bay & take up much less space than my truck & the wife's van. Leaving plenty of room for a workbench & whatever else on that end. I appreciate all the comments!

Had a spray foam insulation guy stop by today and quote me at 1"=$1.35/sq ft & 2"=$2.35/sq ft. Just curious out there if that's a reasonable quote or not? Thanks in advance!

Been awhile since I've been able to post, the demolition of our house that flooded finally happened within the last 2 weeks

Before being torn down...

After...

Sad time for us as that was the wife & I's first home together. But, happy to have that chapter closed & moving on in life. Now back to the garage at the new home, I've finished portions of the wiring, still slow progress. I coach basketball so the fall/winter/spring is always busiest for me but should be able to get some things accomplished now. First pic is just the first wires being ran from the breaker box.

I'll try to get some updated pics of things tomorrow, I bought that box & breakers at a yard sale for $15 some time back. Also have hung 8 - T8 lights that I'm pretty pleased with the lighting. Then in the area where I want my workbench to be, hung some 2x4's, set in all the outlets on that wall (8), along with hanging some insulation in the corner also.

Had someone giving away these old bathroom cabinets & I thought I could re-use them for my workbench. Also, wish I would've taken some before pictures of the toolbox that's in the next picture, it was red & I'm a WVU fan in buckeye country so I couldn't have that. I'll refinish the cabinets at some point; I still have purchase the top for my workbench once I decide what I'm going to use. Depending on the thickness of the top, my workbench height will be somewhere between 43-45", I'm about 6'1" tall and I'm very pleased with that height. I know some of this isn't the nicest quality stuff, but I'm proud of what I do have so far. If anyone has any suggestions, comments, or improvements I can make, let me know & thanks for reading!

Hey Seth, I am over in OKC. I like your shop. Nice dimensions and appearance. Can you tell me what builder you used and how you liked them? Feel free to PM me. I am interested in cost for the shell and concrete too but wont pry if you dont feel like disclosing that.

What are your interior ceiling height, overhead door, and eve dimensions?

Please keep posting!

Hey Kevin, I used Auflick Family Builders, they did good quality work, but the issue was time. My whole build took them just under a year and a lot of frustration for me. Concrete pad I know was around $4,400 sealed which from other estimates didn't seem awful. As far as your dimension questions, I'll get out there today & get exact measurements & some other pictures.

****...Shawnee, OHIO....I thought you were down the road in Shawnee, OKLAHOMA....Disregard the builder/price questions. I'm sure that would differ in my zipcode.

Still interested in the dimensions. Thanks for posting!

Sorry it took me awhile to get back with you 65Cayne! Interior ceiling height unfinished is at 9'6" Each bay door is 9' wide by 7' high, I do wish I would've went with a little larger openings (both ways) on the overhead doors. Eves are 1' all the way around. My contractor tried to talk me into going with 1 - two car overhead door & 1 regular size but I'm not a fan of the way they look. I'll keep posting pics as I get things done, had some things come up & low on cash for much progress to be made, but I'll get there!

Having to do it piece by piece & bit by bit as I can afford it; but I'm slowly getting my bench top put together. I've been debating on this for sometime now & finally made my decision. I'm using 2"x2"x8' pieces & "interlocking" them together using 3" wood screws & glue to fasten them together. Once I have them all assembled I'll be using a flat bracket to fasten the bench to the 2x4's on the wall. I'll run a belt sander over it all then stain & poly the top. It's an L shaped bench and I like the idea of how this will look. Let me know any thoughts or anything I haven't thought about that could go wrong!!

Also, over the last weekend was able to get my jeep ('77 CJ5) out of my old garage and into the new garage. The jeep isn't the greatest, but my Dad and I spent a lot of time together in the garage messing around with it. I drove it into my old garage almost 4 years ago before my boy was born & hadn't gotten it out since. Couldn't get it started so I dollied it over to the new place where I introduced my son to it & all he wants to do now is wash it & sit in it.

Figured out the first culprit as to why she wouldn't start too...

Starter drive on order... then we'll go from there. Also, got 8 more 2x2's mounted on my workbench tonight, it's progress, but it's slow!

Also just sat some pegboard in place, think I finally decided on the location for it too. Look ok? I'm pleased with it so far!

Your son is doing a good job cleaning the Jeep!....looks like it needs it.

I like the bench top idea. Looks good and should be quite sturdy.

Been awhile since I got to post anything! Since the last post I have nearly finished the construction of the bench aside from some type of framing where the wall meets the worktop. Any suggestions are appreciated!! Don't give me grief about the shoddy drywall job or the fact I hung pegboard etc... prior to any finishing. I got a shop light off of an old roll threader at the plant & got it back up & running which is mounted in the corner for any detailed work/lighting on the bench-top. Goal is to frame the rest of the garage in & insulate it over time (as the $$ becomes available.) I know it's not the nicest/greatest but I'm pretty proud of it so far, I'm getting there! Thanks for any input/ideas!

Been awhile!! Been working 6 days a week so that doesn't leave much free time for much else. Started back to work on the jeep tonight & found remnants of a "friend"... 39eaadea8d45ff692bde02c299633988.jpg

Once I got over the shakes from that, the boy & I went back to work on it! Here he is running the shop vac in the back just cleaning up while I am pulling the steering column out. 49818451203e39b6acd6803682e6817b.jpg

I've got some type of ignition short that drains my battery and causing other problems. I'll post a few more pics of the inside & the little progress that's been made soon!!

I'll say this, I don't have a mouse problem at all... But I hate snakes with a passion and I'd rather deal with mice!
