Hi guys, I’m new here and looking for shop light recommendations for a new 30x40x10 pole barn. The builder put 6 of the standard screw in lights in but I’m wanting to add more lighting. I do a lot of mechanic and detailing work. I’m not against spending a little extra money if it gives me better light output than a cheap led shop light. Looking for recommendations on what type, brand, and how many I need. Iv read a bunch of forums but it’s all confusing to me. Just looking for what style lights would be best for me. Thanks

Thanks. I had thought about ufo style but didn’t know if they would work with my 10 foot ceilings

I have 6 150w ones in my 40x60 shop w/ 12' ceilings, they work great. The corners need a bit more light, so I'm either adding 4 more or repurposing some other lights in the corners.

any reason for the ufo style over 4' led florescent?

Im in a similiar boat with a 28x40x12 and planning to install 8, 4' led florescents. Electricians just did the rough wiring last week and i hope to have the rough-in inspection this week.

In my new garage (24x40x12) I have 10 four foot 42 watt, 5000k LED lights. Basically they are on every other truss, two foot in from the center line. Bright, easy install and less than $200 from Amazon. If I should need more light in the future, I plan on installing some wall units similar to what a body shop uses.

I have 5 UFO lights in a 40x60.. The amount of light they produce is pretty astounding. I've never in-line LEDs that can match the light output. But UFOs are generally made for "high bay".

I'm working on perimeter 8' shelving, and have started adding strip lights to the edges. Really knocks down the shadows.
