I know there is a sticky and I've read as much as I can handle. I've seen everything from 8 to 16 fixtures. $12 to $120 fixtures.

I need some help please.

30 x 48 x 12. white tin ceiling, white painted walls.

I originally had a layout for 16 lights, but now think that might be overkill.

I found a thread where they used these, but when I try to order 16. it comes up as 32, even though it says "pack of 2"

https://www.ledlightingwholesaleinc.com/HB-90W320605-L-D-2-p/hb-90w320605-l-d-2.htm

I'd appreciate some help from those of you that have done something similar.

Are they 16 packs of 2?

IMHO, Lights should be installed during construction and after the layout of the space and work areas have been firmed up.

I can't vouch for their effectiveness yet, but I am putting 12 96" (8 foot) LED light assemblies in my 30x40, hanging at 12'. Lithonia model MNSLL962LL40K80CRI is what I'm using, about $80/ea at my local big box store. Hope to have them up in 1-2 weeks.

Question, would that be based on not fully utilizing its range? Meaning at 15ft, it lights a 500sq ft space, but at 12ft, it'd only light a 400sq ft space?

No, it is about being too bright for the height. You will get shadows and hot spots.

Regular 2 bulb fixtures evenly distributed will be much better

Gotcha. Thanks. I am in the planning phases of mine, and started looking at the high bay lights

12000 Lumen medium distribution fixtures are ideal for hitting the 93fc target @ 30" work plane when installation height = 12'. Tube lights cease to be your most cost effective solution at 12'.

Thanks, although I haven't made it far enough through the sticky to understand everything you just said. Do you happen to have a specific product/light I can look at that meets that criteria?

Samh - The fixture linked by Ron_J is a 12000 Lumen medium distribution fixture. Don't expect to find anything lower cost than $54 ea.

Ron_J - Only downfall with the linked fixture is it doesn't have a surface mounting bracket option. These may fit (link) or could be made to fit. Don't have time right now to chek best qty - I'll return with that later. I assume this space is for wrenching.

Wrenching, woodworking and welding projects. And the occasional corn hole game. :)

9 fixtures is not possible to space less than the 12ft apart max so that's not an option.
12 fixtures = 80fc @ 30" work plane
15 fixtures = 99fc ...

If 48' is a 4 bay garage, then 5x3 would work best when cars are in there. 10.5' center to center spacing in the 5 fixture direction x 11' spacing in the 3 fixture direction. Or something close to that.

I have 2 overhead door on the end for a lift and parking, the back half will be for a workshop.

Do you think 5x3 would still give the best results?

In that case the difference between 5x3 and 4x4 is very small. Which one is better really depends more on the layout of objects in the space. As long as you don't exceed 12' center to center fixture spacing you'll be fine.

Do you have an IES file on these lights? I’m working on my lighting layout.

BTW, it’s amazing the info I’ve learned from your posts and threads. THANK YOU!

That Guy Scott - You'll have to dig through the visual tool and find something similar. Look through Lithonia IBE & IBH.
