Hey everyone! I am building my new house and along with that I am building a detached 30x50 Pole Barn. It will have 3 10x10 doors with a window on each side of the side walls, plus an entry door. Ceiling is 12 feet tall, and 4" concrete slab with 6" where the two post lift will be. I would like to Epoxy coat the floors. The attached garage will have Swiss Trax since that is a 3 car garage where there won't be much work other than detailing. The detached will be used mainly for all other work. I was looking at some epoxy coatings and saw that UCoat-It was a pretty good company. Does anyone have any experience with that company or suggest a different brand? I would like to do it myself to save on costs. I know I will have to acid wash the concrete after 45 days of it being installed before I put any epoxy on. Also once I find the right company, I would have to figure out how many gallons I would need to coat the floors. Please let me know, thanks!

Sounds like a nice project!

Figure that a gallon of any liquid will cover 1,604sf to a depth of 1mil (without any consideration for waste or applicable evaporation-absorption). 1,604 / 1,500=1.07mils per gallon. For Wolverine Coatings products we recommend 6-10mils primer, 12+mils pigmented body coat and 5mils clear coat (23mils minimum) other manufacturers will be different. Add 10% to each for waste and you should be good to go.

Thanks! So far my picks are:

1. UCoat-It
2. ARMORPOXY (ARMORULTRA) This was the thickest at 23 mils
3. Epoxy-Coat

Anyone have any experience with different epoxy companies?

I'd throw Wolverine Coatings on that list and we'd be happy to quote you more than 23mils if you feel the need... ;)

Mil thickness is important but keeping it on the concrete is more important. Make sure you diamond grind, prime and pick a good clear coat with a non-skid.

Unless you are testing your coating with a wet mils gauge as you coat, you could have 7 mils here and 30 mils there, it's an advertising GOTCHA.

Actually Jay Leno's garage used some U Coat it and it came out alright. The problem there was that it was a heavy use area and it got dirty and could not clean it but that was using a mocha colored coating which tends to show the dirt more. If i can suggest anything then stick closer to the grey since your coating color will show the dirt very similar to a car depending on color. I also suggest using a sealer. Your concrete is new so that is a big advantage. Consider using a vapor barrier under the concrete! Good luck.

Good points. Any flake distribution will hide a million sins. Consider using flake.

Sounds like you are on the right track, just make sure to prep properly. We can set up virtually any type of coating system for you.

Thanks for the info! I will be using your flooring for my attached garage! I talked to Matt at Obsessed Garage and I like the same exact setup he and AdamLz put in.

I am going with a gray color but flakes to me would be a pain in the ****. I wouldn't be able to apply it evenly with 1500sq feet!!! Although they do look nice.

Can anyone give me any quotes for 1500 sq feet? I would like to go with a gray color only to keep it simple. Unless you sell a flake gun that can evenly dispense the flakes lol

I installed the ArmorUltra last year and broke my project into two big sections and can't see a line. I haven't had any issues where the two sections meet. Highly recommend but don't do any coating without a respirator.

Our two part Military Grade urethane topcoat does have a strong odor, so best to always use a respirator when applying. We do offer a variety of topcoats with little or no odor if required, but the cost more.
