Well gang, I have been a creeper on this site for what seems like an eternity. I started my build back in July, but I am just now getting around to writing up the build. Like many of you, I got hooked on this site after viewing the 12 Gauge Garage....Jack is a boss.

Anywho, my build is a Mueller 30X50X12 with a walk door, 16x10 and 10x10 (all insulated).

The whole process has been quite the debacle to be honest. The project started out with me having to replace my old conventional septic system with a new aerobic system since the lateral lines were going to be in the way of the build. However, since I was trying to get this build accomplished in what seemed to be the middle of the monsoon season here in Texas (was a record setting year for rain), I had to put in a French drain system just to allow for the installation of the aerobic septic system.
The crew that installed the septic system still had one heck of time due to the saturated clay soil I have in my back yard, Texas gumbo at its finest. I must say, I have never seen a crew man-handle a semi with track-hoe like those boys did. In the end, the system was installed and Dulworth Septic did an outstanding job.
Finally, after the French drain and septic were installed, I could proceed with the build.
Here is a side story for you:
When the concrete guy showed up to do the grading, I was at work (gotta pay for this stuff somehow). When I got home from work, the bobcat was still sitting on the side of my yard, up to the bottom of the cab in mud. I called the concrete guy and he stated that it was just too wet and that he would be back. Liar, liar…..Compact Power (the company that the concrete guy rented the bobcat from) had actually disabled the bobcat due to non-payment. However, that is not even the worst part! The worst part is that Compact Power sent out a rep 3 days later to actually repo the bobcat from my property and once again I was at work when all of this took place. The rep from Compact Power totally destroyed my entire side yard trying to get the bobcat out of the mud. Furthermore, the rep used all the forming wood from the concrete guys trailer to try and get out of the mud. The rep was a complete *****, instead of coming up grade and getting on the driveway, he thought he was going to be able to drive all the way down the side-yard and out through the ditch. In the process of all of this, the A@# hat destroyed the newly installed French drain, tore up the grass and broke my driveway in 2 places, not to mention that fact that he left all the mess for me to clean up!
The concrete crew that placed the slab were an absolute joke, I had to supervise and complain the whole way and still ended up with a mega sub-par slab. On the day of the pour, the concrete guy evidently only ordered 20 yards when the build required 30 yards, so it was a 2-hour gap between the 2nd truck and the 3rd truck. I ended up with a cold joint along the entire front of the slab and it pretty much looks like doodoo.

Like many of you on here, I had to make a choice between just proceeding or going to court and losing my money and having nothing to show for it, so I just proceeded with the build despite my discontent.

Here are some pics....

More to follow…..

Welcome, I guess. :eyecrazy:

Sounds like you're off to a not so great start. I would definitely pursue the rental company on damages caused.

Hopefully the rest of the build will go better. Are you the GC? If not want is the general contractor doing about things.

Where are the bolts for the columns? I only see one set. Mueller supplies a bolt layout for the anchor bolts. Did you shoot the slab for level before you started erecting? All the base plates need to be within 1/4" or you will have problems with door openings and the roof.

Welcome to GJ. I hope things get better.

Thank you for the welcome!

I contracted a local company for the build, was supposed to be a turn-key operation. As far as the bolts, they put J-bolts for both the center columns, but drilled all the others. So far, no issues with doors closing correctly, but as I said before.....the slab is very sub-par.

I attempted to go after Compact Power (rental company), they basically told me to get bent. I know if I take them to court, I would likely just be out more money.

Finally got the doors installed yesterday...

Went with Clopay commercial 3213 doors, R9. So far, I am very pleased with the doors, the commercial grade hardware is much more robust vs. the residential stuff.

take that **** to Judge Judy, at the very least you will get a free trip to new york or where ever it is.

small claims court only costs about $100 to file the paperwork, you can get up to about $10K from what I remember.

Feels good to know I'm not the only one going through hell with contractors trying to build a dam shed!

Do contractors need to be licenced over in the US of A to open up a business, or can any cowboy start a concrete business even though he knows Sweet F-A about concrete?

I agree, I'd try some form of small claims court too, Guy destroys your grass / slab and you are just a unlucky bystander in this whole debacle.

what toys will you shove in your shed? i see a sneak peek of a truck in the background, project car?

Rudi.
