Hello, obviously new to this forum and just looking for some suggestions/input! That's a rough sketch of the future interior of the barn (1200sq/ft) of it. We are purposely keeping plumbing on one side of the building, is it easier or allowed to stub plumbing out of the building and basically connect all your drains from the outside..or Is it better to have everything dug and connected under the slab? Looking for suggestions, thanks in advance!

If you want to have lofts and want to maintain 8 foot ceiings in your 2 levels, you would need to increase the height to 17 or 18 feet.

No lofts.. no upstairs.. but appreciate the input!

We will look to do concrete next spring... Over winter we'll get rough-ins done and utilities all laid out ..hopefully 🤞

Quite a bit to do, and I'll be learning along the way!

P.s. the barn is already built lol 💪👍👍

So we're about to have the entire barn floor poured within the next few weeks, if you look back at rough drawing on how we want the layout I want to make sure we get everything in before the concrete!! Maybe some can help and make sure I'm not missing anything. We need to have all the plumbing trenched and stubbed out of the barn ie. Kitchen sink drain... Tub/shower drain.. toilet...vents for all plumbing... bathroom sink drain... Washer drain... (We are probably going to put stackable laundry into the bathroom now) Ummm do I need the gas line prepped and ran through the floor? Or can that come later through the wall? Main water line?? Electric?? We have a pole about 300ft away but I want everything underground so it will come down the pole into meter and all underground from there.. if I'm missing anything please let me know! This board has been awesome, thanks in advance!

I like the setup.

Gas can be exterior. I'd get all the plumbing in the slab... Are you hiring a plumber? Messing up the drains would be very bad and costly.

Keeping everything to one area is smart and it will make things a lot easier and cheaper.

Make sure you get a sink in the shop area

Yes I was going to purchase everything and then let the plumber and excavation company take care of the installation... Im going to go over everything Saturday and see what is needed.. my brother built a 46x106 barndo few mins down the street so we're going to go over everything he did and hopefully I don't miss anything! This board has been a blessing needless to say! Thanks for all the help so far

16 ft side walls on my building with half of it 2 story. 9' ceilings on first floor and vaulted ceiling on second floor that go up to 11' in the center and about 5.5' at the lowest on the sides. Not a full 8' but it doesn't really bother me because you place stuff along those outer walls.

That's awesome!! We had no intention on upstairs, I'm more interested in what I need done prior to concrete work lol! It seems like so much TBH... But we'll get it right.

That's deep and narrow. What do you plan to work on in there?
If you look above you'll see there will be usable living space but just temporarily while a house is built! And the rest is general use, storage, etc.. we were able to take advantage of depth on our property vs width (since a house will go in eventually.. the plan anyways)
Something 35-50 wide just was too big on our lot based on our plans.

We have made some more progress! We have some power, added some temp lights, and framed up some living space! My next question is for the insulation experts... what have people had most success with? We are considering rockwool in the living area... also how would everyone go about insulating the overhead attic space we created? Would you insulate the ceiling of the rooms and obviously outer walls all the way up... it's just a short 4.5ft tall area from ceiling to truss bottom. 243.jpg358.jpg475.jpg506.jpg502.jpg508.jpg

If your heating the entire building it wouldn't make sense to insulate the space between the ceiling and attic. Maybe for noise control??
If just heating the living quarters then yes minimum r30 unless local code says higher (49). Not sure what area you're in.
Might think about fiberglass batts. You would have the option to remove them for the house when the time came if you're on a tight budget.

See in my eyes, that attic is just that an attic. I don't know the right way to do it yet... That area in the main living/kitchen area is 14ft height. That storage area above .. I don't plan on heating atleast not right now.. the pictures of that area prob look a bit confusing, but either way thanks for the suggestion!
