32mm socket

Just wondering, as I've never had much use for one, what do you use a 32mm socket for?
Sometimes I've used them as part of a makeshift puller arrangement... but I'm sure they have a better function!!!
I think it is basically a 1 1/4"now I think about it.... not sure if I've used that much either!

Axle nuts on Hondas from the late 90s are 32mm. Crv, civic, and integra are all 32 mm depending on the submodel. I'm pretty sure the Type R takes a 36 but I might be mistaken.

It's a very common size for hub nuts - Mini's come to mind, but there are others!

You often need a 1/2 inch drive socket too - 3/4 drive sometimes won't fit in the space available!

The first 2 things I can think that I've used mine for recently is axle nuts and the crank bolt that holds the flywheel on my garden tractor. Come to think of it, I think that's the size that fits one of the plastic canister oil filter housings we have too....

Get the Wright tool impact socket. Not too expensive and tough, if you need 6 point.

For me, its metric components in specialized machinery I work on - anything from hydraulics components to high pressure water pumps, blowers and other "industrial" parts -- much of it is now being produced in metric and sizes run up around 2 1/2" on our common lines of machinery. Sure you can get by substituting standard "close enough" tool for metric on a lot of these large sizes, but sometimes you really should have the right tool. I think my largest metric socket is 46MM.

Its din standard for M22, I know I have used mine on something that I was expecting to be 30mm. Think it was bolting in the grids on a cattle grid.

Spindle nut on my GF's Oldsmobile Aurora was 32mm I believe.

Just the bolt shanks on some generators we install are 36mm.
Any Sockets over an inch in diameter that are 3/4" or 1" drive are regularly provided by the Company, though there is a few of us that have our own sets.
As an FYI the Torque wrench goes up to 2400 foot pounds with a 6 foot handle.

most toyota corolla axles are 32mm 12pt as well as most pre 06 nissan. 6pt.

Two choices with large hardware, either very heavy duty stuff (where a lot of torque is being spread accross alot of strong hardware).

Then also applications where moderate torque is being distributed accross a large area because the hardware is inherently less strong--eg alloy components.

That's why the application listed above are heavy industry+ axel nuts; and then motorcycle parts and hydraulics...

Exhaust systems and hydraulics also tend to have lare bore diameters by fluid/gas dynamics, not necessity related to torque issues.

Ktm uses 32mm on some exhaust fittins (screens), because they need to clear the exit bore are threaded alloy with very few threads (otherwise would be obscenely heavy with no structural need for steel).

I have a 32mm that came with my deep impact socket set and I've never touched it. But from the other answers, I'm assuming axle nuts would be the only use. I've used my 30mm a few times though.

Yep. You beat me to it.

I believe most newer (2000+) GM 2.0/2.2/2.4L engines have an oil filter cap that is 32mm. Trust me when I say not to try and use a 1 point socket on there. It'll strip the plastic corner in a heartbeat.
