I have been visiting this site for a while but I don't post much. I have gotten to the point where I am ready to build my garage. I thought I would share some photos of where we are up to this point.
This is the area where the garage will be built

Clearing the top soil

This is about half the fill it took to get it level



Thirteen loads at eighteen tons a piece


Everything was spread and compacted
Delivery day!!!:rocker:
Everything in place for construction to start next week

I will be updating this thread as I have time because this will be an ongoing project.

Well, the build date has been pushed back.:mad: I really wanted this thing done before Thanksgiving but it doesn't look like that is going to happen now. Hopefully it will be done before it gets too cold around here. Right now I'm at the mercy of the building company.

With the holiday/long weekend next week most projects are frustrated. Builders are tidying up what they have going and everybody seems to have plans that conflict with work. The good news is that you have your pad ready and materials on site. When they do start it will go fast.

Should be under roof and sided by tomorrow. These guys don't mess around. They were carrying 20ft 4x6 post by themselves. I almost feel embarrassed watching them work.

Looking good, I am going through the same thing you are, just finished the structure. It was pushed back almost a month due to weather and holidays. Keep us updated! What are the details as far as plans for the shop?

T0B: you can PM a MOD to change the spelling on the thread. if you need help to do that and just ask and i or any other member can help you.

The shop is basically gonna be for me to work on my drag car and do some other projects. Eventually it will have a lift and I will finish the inside as time and budget allows.

Yes one day. I couldn't believe it. They come in and get right to work and its a four man crew. One off them only drives the skid steer. All of the construction was done by three guys. They set the roof trusses in thirty minutes and it was dark the entire time. They should finish the roofing and siding and be completely done today.

T0B: looks like you picked the right guys to build your pole barn. keep taking and posting pictures as you have time. also i know you already have plans for the dragster to be in the garage, but have you made plans for all the toolboxes, tools and storage? it will fill up amazingly fast so maybe draw out a few ideas so you'll have them ready when you start moving stuff inside.

i use a lot of the commercial racking like they use at Home Depot and Costco and the nice thing about those racks is you can push a toolbox or cabinet under them because they are stout enough not to need a bottom shelf.

I have some ideas rolling around in my head. I'm waiting to get it finished and the floor I it and then I will have abetter idea of exactly how I want to finish it.

More progress today. They got it under roof and framed the walk in door. They will be back Monday to finish up.

T0B: those guys are good. just an FYI in case you were undecided about how thick to pour the cement floor. i'd go at least 5 inch thick and maybe 6 inches to give it a better chance of not cracking. if you are adding radiant heat you need to adjust those a bit.

Yeah these guys are awesome. I was here all day yesterday watching them. Today I left for work and they had finished up and gone by the time I got home. I had some spies snapping pictures for my. I am planning on six inches for the floor depending on the concrete cost. I have a contractor coming out Tuesday to look at it and hopefully give me an estimate.

Also for those that were asking. He is a picture of the ol hotrod. 1996 Chevy Breretta full tube chassis. 555 cubic inch bigblock Chevy. I run some of the local Topsportsman stuff and bracket race.

T0B: don't skimp on the cost of the concrete and you'll be thankful later. also i'm just guessing your temps are dipping close to freezing at night so if you don't want to wait to pour until next spring ask your contractor if he uses blankets and how he plans to keep your new floor from cracking. i'm far from the smartest guy to tell you about concrete, but thought i'd share what i know.

there are chemicals you can put in the concrete and not sure what because i've never used them and some put rebar or mesh in their floors so if you read other guy's garage threads you'll probably find your answer and if you like the guy's garage and don't find an answer just ask a question and i'm sure that he or another member will try to help if they can.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah the temps are starting get into the freezing zone at night but the days are decent weather.

The car is track only. It only has a three gallon fuel cell so you wouldn't get far. Ever since that TV show the moonshine has been hard to come by.:mad: Tbe funny thing is I only live about 100 or so miles from where they film the show.:D

Not much going on this weekend. I cleared out the excess dirt and tamped everything back down. It should be got and compacted. I'm beat and its beer thirty.:beer:

Very nice car and I'm sure it is fun to drive. I knew a guy who worked for GM that raced a Cavalier, I laughed at him when I heard that because I figured he'd have something a little nicer. Then he showed me pictures, looked similar to yours and also running a big block. He was running 8's and it was awesome to see in person. Keep it up and I'll tag along to follow your progress.

T0B: nicely done with the compaction. you might even want to do it again in a few days if the cement isn't going down before then. also if you still have the machine. nothing better in a garage than a perfect floor without any cracks or low spots.

are the guys stopping by again today to finish the siding? are you doing the insulation and wiring?

They are working on the siding now. I will be doing the wiring and I will insulate eventually.
