Well I started my build earlier this year, but finally making some time to post about it. I am new to the forum but I have been looking here for ideas for the past couple years. Decided to go with a 32x40 stick built garage. Went with 10 foot studs and 4 courses of block to try and get to 14 ft walls. I live in NC so it doesn't get super cold but is hot in the summer. I hate working in the cold so I decided to go with a heated floor setup from Radiantec. I did a bunch of research and for a heat source seems like the best bang for your buck. Hoping to get by with some window AC units in the summertime. Well its been a long time coming and still a long way away.

Started with the clearing which was covered in Poison Ivy

Had some old school brick masons show up to do the block work. They started around 6:30 in the morning and were done before lunch.

Had to install some 1 inch insulation under the slab for the heated floor system. Then used the metal wire to hold the pex tubing where it needed to be before pouring the floor.

Heated floor installed and ready for concrete. Left some openings for some lifts.

Had a leak but luckily we found it before the concrete was installed. Not sure how it happened but got it all fixed.

Thanks a lot. I'll post some more pics later. Got a lot done this weekend hoping to have it dried in very soon. This weather is killing me. I'm located near Denver.

Putting the roof sheathing on a 7-12 pitch is not that fun but I guess it could be worseIMG_3280.jpgIMG_3283.jpg

Had the girlfriend help me huff all 20 sheets of the 3/4 subfloor up a 20 foot ladder for the loft. IMG_3296.jpg

Well it has been a long time since I have updated my current project. A lot has gone on since the last posting.

I got the roof on. After carrying only one bundle of shingles up the ladder I threw in the towel and hired a couple friends to do the job.

Wired up the whole garage with some help from my dad and a couple friends. Had quotes from the pros, but they wanted $5000-6000 to wire it up. I think I spent close to $1800 for the materials and took me about a week doing it after work.

Ended up putting the old Toyota through hell hauling some rock.

Ended up putting R-15 up for the wall insulation, went with R-19 under the subfloor and will do the blow in insulation on the rest once the ceiling is done.

Glad to see you have made progress! Feels great, doesn't it??
So, what is the plan for the garage? Just storage? Man cave above garage? Do you work on cars or?
GOD Bless!

I installed some furring strips on the ceiling so I don't have saggy sheetrock overtime. I am going to install 5/8 on the ceiling and 1/2 on the walls.

Had some help from my dad again on hanging the walls. Luckily wasn't too bad.

The ceiling on the other hand sucked. With very close to 14 foot ceiling height huffing the 5/8 sheets up the scaffolding and then hanging each piece (40 of them) sucked. Thankful for the help from some friends that weren't scared of heights because it was a lot of hard work.

And unfortunately I didn't get and of this done when the weather was warmer but those heaters work good if u can deal with the smell of the kerosene
