Hi I'm new here. I poured my slab last week, and spent my time since then digging around it, stripping the forms and placing wing insulation down prior to backfilling and grading. One side at a time. bear with me i'll dig up some picks.

These are of the build site just after clearing, and my half build house. Notice the well, which will be a foot in front of the slab, just between the two garage doors. This is also an eave entry garage w/ the doors on the 40ft length. The reason is that i wanted the doors orientation facing this way, but our city demands any truss width greater than 32' to be on an enginnered building.

here are a couple taken the same day as the first pics. My family cleaning the inside of our camper and winterizing it. look at my two year old who climbed to the top of the ladder when we both weren't looking for about 20 seconds... he's trouble, or we are bad parents! :D

Here's some pics after a few loads of pit run went down and some forms magically appeared. Also note my daughter, who apparently can fly.

here i dug through the frost and installed 2" vertical insulation and 4" horizontal to protect against frost heave. I've got so much good gravel that i could have gotten away without this step, but since the ground will freeze before the garage (and it's weight) will be on the slab, i took this extra measure. It will be much better for heating costs later on as well.
Then of course the inspectors came by!

Here you can see the back length, where I dug into the hill. I placed the foam and in the hand dug trench to the left i laid geotextile fabric with clearstone and weeping tile inside. This drains to daylight. I will build a stone wall along here later with excavated stone. I'm also going to build a leanto along this entire length in the spring.

Last one for tonight.. .my trench for gas, hydro, phone and another conduit for whatever later on. The first day was difficult digging (18" of frost). But then i broke a hydraulic line on the excavator. With the machine out of commission until the next day, i decided to spend that evening dragging some downed trees along the length of the trench that had yet to be dug. I poured some special fluid on top (can't devulge what type but it also makes my machines work harder for me when they are thirsty) and then with the flick of a lighter i went to bed. The next morning after repairing the machine, digging was easy.

I forgot that i posted the same question in your other thread a while back. I recognized the name though. I'm 12 minutes past county fair plaza. great looking build. Is that your pc60?

we dug about an 80' hydro/gas line trench the other day at my buddies garage on hilldale. We used my Cat 302.5, a tiger torch and a jackhammer. took over 13 hours...over a foot of frost

i also did a hydro trench the other day, last tuesday out on hwy 608. 300ft., he had a foot of frost also. i rented a little takuechi from united rentals. it was small... if you've got a 302.5 we should talk. Yes that's my pt60, i do landscaping, waterproofing, septic and concrete and often have need for a small excavator.

I'm taking my time here. But i managed to get gas hydro and a 4" weeping tile to the garage from the house. I framed and put up about 75% of the walls.. heading out today to frame the eave entry wall.
Ill try to dig up some pics.
Youll notice ive been dealing with snow but ive got some good grunt labour. The last pic is from my bedroom... makes it look small.
ALSO...if you have a chance, please read my thread in the hvac forum and offer any input you have. Thanks

Thanks darren.

Today i did the rest of the wall framing.. and of course with the next few days of beautiful weather coming up, weve scheduled a trip to duluth, mn. And of course thr day we get back the temps are forecast to plummet just intime for me to raise the trusses.
Oh well.

Ha! I'm from Duluth originally.

Looks good, I'm envious of the space, we don't have nearly as much of that here in Minneapolis.

Shill68, I'm envious of the prices you guys have.. that's why i do much of my purchasing down there. I bought my travel trailer in Mound, mn and saved $8000 over buying in canada. Same with my boat which i bought from Lake Minetonka.... Wow, those places are amazing!

SpeedFreak, the walls are 9' high. I'm restricted by the local zoning to a max height of 20'. with my 32'wide 8/12pitch trusses, i'm still breaching that by 8". hopefully they don't use a tape measure!hehehe
