I’ve got a lot of great ideas off here and thought I should pay it forward, and if no one is interested at least I’ll have it documented for myself. Like stated the building is 32’x64‘ with 16’ wall height, also a 12x40 lean too. Main building is 4/12 pitch, lean too is 3/12. I hired a pole barn outfit to complete the shell and I will finish the inside and hire out the concrete. I would’ve liked to frame the building myself but lack of time and lack of equipment for the height motivated me to hire it out. Building will have 2, 12’x14’ doors as a drive through bay, and one 10’x10’ door where I plan on putting a 4 post lift. 2 man doors, 3, 3’x2’ windows in future loft and 5, 5‘x2’ windows in shop

This weekend I insulated 2’ down around complete shell (except g.doors) with 2” pink polystyrene foam. Next I need finalize my plumbing layout as there will be a full bath/ utility room in the front left ground corner of barn. It will also house the radiant floor system, upstairs there will be a loft approx 15’x32’ with a bedroom and kitchenette/living area. I also need to stub in conduit for electrical. I’ll have a 200 amp sub panel in the middle under the lean too and a 100 amp sub panel on the other side of building

Looks like it'll be awesome! What work do you plan on doing in there?
Oh a little bit of everything, general vehicle, camper, sxs maint. Apartment for guest/ a hangout as we have a small 1,000 sq ft house. Plan on living in it while we do a addition/remodel in a couple years. Hope to start searching for a new project pickup once my savings recover. Thanks!

Anyone have any thoughts on floor drains? The slab will be heated so I don’t know that I really need them. I won’t be parking daily’s in here and don’t know if I want the extra headache. Will some snow end up on the concrete? We’re in Montana, 100% But I’m sure it will dry up or I’ll mop it up

Fyi. If you are planning on covering the interior walls. Take detailed pictures of everything in the walls - air lines, water and drain pipes, etc - so that when drilling the walls or looking for a problem you know where and where not to go. Doing this saved me alot of grief when I had a leak in the wall - was able to go exactly where the pipe was and make a small opening to make the repair without tearing up the wall.

Great looking shop you had built, that 2' overhang around the exterior is so much better looking than not having it imo. (y)

got a little work done this weekend putting down subfloor in the loft. Ordered some composite decking to use as stair treads, figured it would hold up the best. Also ordered some 4/0 urd to feed the 200 amp sub panel in the shop.

Got stair treads on, a composite decking from newtechwood. Happy with how it turned out, hopefully it holds up well.

What a great looking building !! The design elements in the loft look awesome!!

One question …. Why not have the lean-to along the entire side of the building ?

That radiant floor foam looks like really handy stuff.

in Short, because I screwed up. I added the lean too last minute, they were literally pulling tapes and I asked what it would cost to add a lean too. But I already had purchased those windows for that side of the building and didn’t want them to go to waste. If I were to do it over I would of made it the whole length and 14’ wide instead of 12’. My only regret so far, owell . The foam worked good for for rolling the tubing out by myself. I could just roll and step it into the grooves. It was the same $ as the pink stuff and a little thicker.

Got some work done in the loft, still need to run ceiling joist and miscellaneous blocking. That bedroom closet over the stairs sure made my brain hurt, gonna be interesting making some built ins for it. Bedroom is 11x14 and the living area is 18x14. There will be those two openings looking out into the shop which I framed for bar stool height. Will have to find some cool slabs for bar tops and make some shutters to keep dust out at times

It’s been a busy summer but managed to get a few big ticket items done. Ran power (200 amp), natural gas (2” overkill I know but the pipe was free) and water (1.5”). worked on a lot of grading to get ready for some concrete. I’ve been working on the boiler trying to get that fired before winter takes hold, almost ready. Here’s some pictures

natural gas (2” overkill I know but the pipe was free) and water (1.5”).
Holy gas line Batman!! I have a 1” line that feeds my chicken barn and it runs 28 80k heaters and a GM powered 80kw generator when needed lol

The shop is looking great !! Concrete is always so hard to justify up front but you’ll never regret doing it.

The loft looks amazing !! I’d love to see more pictures of that.

One thing that surprised me was how much base material I’ve needed ($5k) worth already and I’ve done all that work myself. I can’t imagine what it would have costed to hire that work out. good thing I picked up this cute little machine. It’s not a the fastest, but it being available at will works well for me

Yeah I was told by a plumber to run 1.25” but like I said I got the 2” for free99. It’s a 400’ run from my meter so I saved quite a bit of $
