Anybody know who makes a chrome 12pt 3/4"drive short socket? I would like to find a US made one. Looks like Snap-on doesn’t make this size.

Just use an 1 5/16 socket I do not think the .42" will make a big difference. I know some people will get upset to use a standard socket on a metric fastener I do it all the time. It is so close in most cases ie 24 mm 15/16 19 mm 3/4 etc etc. I never had trouble unless the fastener is really messed up.

I am also guilty of this sin. As there are different tolerances on different makes of wrenches they often are tantamount to metric in size. Also with rounded off heads a sacrificial wrench/socket can be hammered on to a good snug fit.

.42" :headscrat

34mm = 1.339"
1 5/16 = 1.313"
= 26 thou.

1 5/16" is what I use. I would imagine most farm stuff is still mainly SAE?? I haven't worked on anything that was never than the mid 1980s though, so may not be that way anymore.

i can give a thumbs up for genius impact sockets. i have the 6 point 3/8 metric swivel impact set 8-19, got it for like $40 on ebay about a year ago. Mostly used on an air ratchet, but often abused by a 1000ft/lbs nitrocat thru the 1/2 to 3/8 adapter. holding up well so far.

well if you give specific applications I can give them to the hand tools product manager and they will review it and see if it is worth making.

I use it on Case IH tractors for removing the bolts for the frame. That connect engine to transmission. I have a 34mm in 1/2" drive but that means I have to use an adaptor and those blots get torqued around 480 ft lbs. Some times it breaks my adaptor which is Snap-on. I use it on other things like to torque wheel bolts on some equipment.

OK I have my flame suit on.

Harbor Freight has a Pittsburg 12 point 3/4 drive Socket set with a 34mm short in it. I've nad a set of both SAE and Metric for years and never busted a single one and many times adapted down fromm a 1 inch gun with over 1400 ftlbs. The set is 49.99. Less than one socket from just about anywhere else. If you do happen to bust it just get it warrantied. Here is the link

+1.

I have a set of them (Rebranded, but identical to the Genius sockets a former coworker had.) and they're great. 3 years of use on an IR 2135 and they show less wear than my Snap-on sockets that've been used on a 2115 for 5 weeks!

I think I will just buy a 3/4 drive metric impact socket set. My craftsman metric chrome set is taking a beating from the impact. Not sure want brand I will go with. I see Snap-on, Mac, and Grey Pneumatic have the sizes I am looking for. Just looking for a good deal on them.

i thought you needed the chrome socket for clearance purposes... if the thickness of the impact sockets are not a concern for you, i can recommend grey pneumatic. i have their 1/2 impact sockets and 1/4 and 3/8 duo-sockets. made in taiwan but their fit and finish is just perfect.

Clearance is not really an issue. I own some Grey pneumatic impact sockets been very happy with them great sockets for the money.
