Hi,

I'm in need of the above, 36mm low profile oil filter cap socket.

Needs to be 3/8 drive.

I'd very much like something not china made....

Only two i can find is the SO flip socket which doubles as a 24mm (it's not shallow enough) or a Facom socket which looks not too bad.

Any others that i should know about ?

Made in Japan. Socket is 24mm in overall depth, to reference against how shallow you need it to be.

The Matco one is very cheap if I remember correctly. If you can confirm it is USA, that might be a really good option.

I bought the lisle 14500 at Pep boys about 6 years ago. Daily use and never had a problem. Think I paid like $8

Thanks for the info guys.

None of them are easily available in the UK

As usual lol.

Needs to be as low profile as possible, like the koken. It's for general use but on a new VW the other day it was in such a tight space it was all i could get in with (borrowed one)

Might get the Facom one.

I believe they are made in France ????

Facom do a full set of oil filter sockets. And they are really good.
Check out this item I found on eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=161745333974&alt=web

Most Facom is made in Taiwan, just assume it is and that way you'll be pleasantly surprised if it isn't. Taiwan Facom is good stuff though, a lot is made by Rotor/Toptul. They know what they're doing.

I though you might be working on a MINI Cooper, they also use this socket. You might look on MINI forums for someone who sold their car....it was only used on the 1st gen cars.....

Draper makes a few too but some labeled Advanced Draper XS13449 or Draper Expert 13449 or Precise Engineered Draper SX-13449. All I believe to be the same tool but named different to confuse people to think one is better made than the other. Oil filter caps are not high torque or anything that requires the best made tool. Even the cheap china ones I own have clearance enough for my jetta.

This one looks like a nice set.

The koken oil caps are 24.4 mm long if I measured mine correctly.

These guys might be able to help you location koken in uk.

The Facom socket is made in Taiwan, not China. Nice quality and finish. I sell a lot of these to BMW guys. Great when used with their J.360 rotator ratchet for filters in tight spots. $17 here in the states....around £12-14 in the UK.
