36x 40 Detached

Been lurking for quite some time looking for ideas for a future build, there is much to be leaned here, and some unreal builds. I was able to start the planning process for my garage after living with a small 2 car attached that we had overgrown so I began to mess around with google sketch and came up with this idea with the help of a builder friend that was unrepayable through the process.

Once the permit was issued we began to break ground in late November and were able to get the foundation in and the floor poured before the weather got real cold.

After the floor was poured I had to wait for the builder to free up his crew but once they started it began to take shape real quick. The initial plan was for the crew to close it in and then I would take over and work on it as a winter project when time allowed but I soon found a new thing to occupy all of my free time.
The plan consists of a 36 x 40 building with 10' walls and scissor trusses. I thought I wanted a room above for a play room but changed my mind after looking in the attic of my existing house. The exterior will match the existing house.

Once the outside was done work turned to the inside. I began the process of insulating and OSB for the ceiling and walls, I must thank my neighbor for the use of his man lift as it made the process much easier. I also had to put my sons portable basketball goal inside as we were in the middle of basketball season and he had a new court to play in. How cool to play ball inside in the middle of winter

We also had to think of heat and a wood stove was added as a temp fix. My future plans call for an indoor boiler to be added to the detached garage to heat both the house and the garage

What's the peak height inside garage? Like the scissor trusses

14'8" to the peak.
Once the interior and electric was finished I turned my attention to the floor and got a weather break and sealed the floor. We held off on sealing it earlier due to the cold temps. I think it turned out ok after spending many hours on here debating what type I should go with; epoxy, stain, etc. I ended up just using a wet look sealer from Menards.

After the floor was sealed I was able to start the big move from my existing garage to the new one and my plan was to remove all my tools from the attached and turn it over to my wife and son for their stuff and to keep bikes and toys from cluttering the new one.

I removed the cabinets from my existing garage and started to move things in and try to figure out where they should go. I ended up with some extra cabinets that I was able to scrounge and painted all to match and set up 2 work bench areas

The lawn mower and tractor do not share the space but were inside due to some dirt work and maintenance issues

I like the idea of a future indoor wood boiler that will heat the house and shop I plan on doing the same thing. It would be great to see someone else do it first. What made you want to go with the indoor boiler instead of outdoor?

Nice build, what brand of sealer did you go with? I am also in the process of trying to decide what to use on my new slab. I don't want epoxy and I am looking for something mainly to minimize oil stains.

Ref the floor sealer it is a wet look low sheen lacquer sealer made by GST. I purchased it at Menards and am happy with the results. I rolled it on the floor but it stinks real bad, every time I went to the garage I could smell it on my clothes when I came back in even after a short time because I could not keep the doors open to air it out.

Regarding the indoor boiler I read alot at hearth.com and they were recommended very highly. Indiana also made that a little easier when they mandated that outdoor boilers be EPA rated.

Nice build and really like the idea of the shelf or loft if you say.
