You would have to ask my buddy Lance that question, he built it that way. I came home one day, and there it stood. I was a little surprised to see it, but it's grown on me. I'll have an outlet on that wall and it's just one more area of useable space. In fact, we're talking about building speaker shelves in at each end near the top, and housing a stereo in a cubby under the stairs, with all wiring inside the wall.

Ok, time for another overdue update...

After getting the floor done, it was time to start finishing the rest of the interior. I hired a drywall company to hang, tape and texture the bathroom, the stairway and the entire upstairs. In the main shop, I had them hang and smooth finish the lid. As for the main walls downstairs, I decided to hang 7/16" OSB. This would be stronger and more durable than drywall, and save me some cash at the same time.

My buddy Mike offered to help hang OSB, so I took him up on that!

I neglected to take any more pictures for almost two weeks, and by then we had the walls hung, primed and painted. Wow, what a lot of work!

Over the next week, we got even more work done. I bought and hung eight 8' 4 bulb T8 light fixtures, painted and hung crown molding and trim to seperate the grey from the white. I also installed all my outlets and some stainless coverplates.

As we're pretty much done painting downstairs, we pulled the paper off the floor and started cleaning up. Thanks to my wife for all her help! She's turning into quite the painter!

We painted and installed a bathroom door. In this shot you can see where I wired for speakers and satellite TV. The floor has been swept, but needs a mopping to get up the rest of the dust.

Well, there you go. There's more to do, I'm sure we'll never be "finished", but it's now to the point that I can start moving some stuff in. I'm pretty excited to be at this stage, and all the hard work is paying off. Thanks for watching!

I like your paint scheme. It's very similar wo where I want to end up when it's all said and done. For now I have the white and grey on the walls, but that blue trim is giving me some ideas! Also love the floor. How is it holding up?

So far, so good on the floor. I am still being pretty careful about dragging or dropping anything on it. I have a high dollar epoxy floor at work, solid color, no chips or clear. This is rougher textured and has much better traction to walk on with wet shoes, but it also doesn't sweep clean quite as easy as the smoother floor. I'm not sure yet, but I also suspect that the Rustoleum isn't going to be as scratch resistant as the expensive stuff we have at work, which was about three times the cost per square foot as my floor.

My original plan on the colored trim was going to be red, to match my tool boxes and compressor, but I switched gears at the last minute. I'm glad I did, I'm really happy with how the blue turned out. If you don't have a good chop saw when it comes time to trim, either borrow one like I did, or rent one if you have to. It was INVALUABLE!!!

I am assuming those holes are for ventilation, how did they block them off to keep the critters out?. What is your plan for access to the new garage/shed/shop? Concrete or just gravel? I would love to see some shots of the upstairs as well. Great looking build!

The soffit vents are covered with wire mesh to keep the critters out. As far as finishing the drive, I'll worry about that after final inspection is passed... I'll see about getting some new shots of upstairs, it's not done, but certainly farther along than my pictures show.

I've started moving stuff in. Toolboxes, work tables, etc. I put together a nice heavy wire rack to store a bunch of scuba gear, that turned out nicely. Now I have to make a drip pan to go under that rack so I can hang wet gear to dry without making a huge puddle!

Ryan, to be honest, I can't give you an exact number. I've (purposefully) not added up all my reciepts.

My budget was originally 40k, and I fully expected to run over by about 5k. I'm pretty sure I'm a little over that now, most likely right around 50k, but I wouldn't think over that.

Yeah, but then I wouldn't have any room for toys!!!

I just got off the phone, and my Ultimage Garage Cabinets are on the way. I ordered up about 17 pieces, they should be here early next week! Woohooooo!

Very nice build.

I'm trying to figure out why your 40' looks twice as long as my 40" :headscrat

Hopefully it's just because of the lack of "stuff"...or maybe I'm going to get the tape measure out :(

BTW: Your assistant does good work too

Hey, I live near Amboy, Washington and need to build a 30x40 similar to yours. Is your buddy for hire?

Thanks,
Russ
