Hello,

Wanting to purchase a 383 stroker kit - balanced rotating assembly with flexplate/balancer just wondering if anyone on here had advice or suggestions as where to purchase. I've found a couple on ebay and thinking of going that route unless anyone has a better idea. Looking for high quality and the cheapest price...

I've built many of 383's with **** and Eagle products. Work with the machinst you trust on these. Often times, I've had a customer purchase a lower priced crank only to spend an extra 3-500 bucks on metal to get it to balance correctly (with in a gram or less). At that point they could have purchased a more mid-priced crank and spent less money on balancing to get it come out correctly.

Depending on the HP you want, both will get the job done it may cost a little extra in machine work to make it work correctly.

We always purchased stuff from Comp Products. (not Comp cams)

I was hoping not to have to "rebalance" - I am relatively new to this stuff, taking it in school right now as I am nearing the end of my 2nd year apprenticeship. In school we cover engines, and have taken apart a cat/Perkins engine...Long and short of it is, I want more experience and was hoping to complete a rebuild on my own (also we do not hace access to a machinist here where I live)...I have access to an old 350 for free and was going to buy the "balanced" rotating assembly - if I do purchase the "balanced" assembly do you think it will still require additional balancing?
Thanks for your replies.

my,
I own an automotive machine shop and have seen most of them. For the average street engine, I think the Eagle balanced kits are done the best. I have checked a couple of thier balance jobs and they were right on the money. Scats cranks are a pain to balance around 40% of the itme and I am not even sure that they offer balanced assemblies like Eagle does with the balancer and flex plate.

You did not mention where you are located, but let me know and maybe I can help you out with it :)

Be careful with the E-bay ones. Some of those guys are buying the parts seperately and balancing themselves. They will cut corners to give a lower price. You do get what you pay for. Look on Summits site and see what they have the Eagle assemblies for. They pretty much have about the cheapest prices for the genuine parts.
