Thanx for the ideas, and keep em coming. I'll be using as many space saving ideas as I can steal/borrow!

Got the hole dug today, they were delayed a day, no big deal. My whole back yard is gone now...got some pics I'll get around to posting...
Is it normal for them to just dig a trench for the footings or should they have taken all the dirt out of the area? I thought it should all go the get back filled?

I have a 16'x20' converted carport with an offset 10'x8' door (side space is ~4' and 2' respectively–dictated by the existing driveway position and width). I wouldn't mind a couple more feet on the depth, but I have lots of space to the sides, and it's still long enough to walk around my Ranger.

Nowhere near tall enough for a lift though.

Sounds like a normal footing dig to me, but I'm no expert. The footings have to be below local frost level, so a trench is the easiest way.
