XYZpro 3D printer issues

Not sure if this is the correct spot but figured general tool was as good a place as any. My good friend’s son gave my son a XYZ Pro 3D printer. He was thrilled. He is 17, a college freshman in an electrical engineer and edt program at University. So needless to say he is a smart kid, sometimes too smart.

See i dont know how these 3d printers work. He is having trouble getting the bed to level. And he has spent countless hours trying. Searched Readit, searched google, says he has searched forums but i dont think he has (too smart for his own good part). I think the problem is he figures if he cant fixit then it must not work.

So anyone had any legit experience with XYZpro 3d printers? He says it wont level even tried manually leveling it with the interface buttons. I guess thats an option... nfi. LOL

Re: XYZpro 3D printer issues

I'll bite....

Never heard of them and I'm relatively up to date on the major brands. Issues like this are exactly why I bought a Prusa as they're generally regarded as one of the most reliable and just work. They also cost more than many other brands but I bought a printer to support other hobbies, not to become a whole new one.

In your son's situation being given one with questionable online support and probably low serviceability, maybe working with him to disassemble and fix any potential glaring mechanical issues may be enough to get it to behave better. I doubt it was given away because it worked like a dream, far too few engineer's ever service their own creations(I say this as an engineer) so good potential exercise for him to start thinking about why was this done this way and what would've made this easier to repair etc.

I have an XYZ printer don't know the model but its the one with the scanner. Had it for a few years. Hacked the hell out of it. Still have but don't use it anymore for that reason. It was easier to build one from scratch.

I found it in my attic. In the middle underneath the bed is the adjustment for the bed.

Yep that fixed it. I had never done this before. So i sat there for about 30 min just monkeying with the leveling program and i got it to work. Turns out, he thought it should just be done once. He just wasn’t being patient...at 17...imagine that!

Funny my step son (one of the 3) is 14 and he happened to do the same thing. Was rushing through getting it going and never setup the bed. I have 20 years in CNC repair so it was like machine setup 101. I used a piece of paper for the gap.
