3ga wire pull 5ft too short!

I acquired 3ga wire for my pull which turned out to be about 5ft too short.

What is the correct way to handle this? **** splice? Service disconnect/junction box?

My buddy demos buildings and choose to give me the wire rather than selling it to the scrappers....what a nice guy. I have been waiting a year for this wire! No way am I buying wire to re-pull.

Just make sure to make your splice is in a box that is accessible.

Hard to say without pics,there is likely fifty different accceptable ways this could be handled.
JB-transition to cable/teck?split bolts/rubber tape,hypress crimps?
disconnect?
mount panel upside down/sideways/lower?

It depends on how far that pull actually was......

Personally, I'd pull new wire......unless you have a box to put the splice in....remember, every connection you have is a potential point of failure....

Just remember....a lot of electrical fires are because someone took a short cut or was trying to save money....one of the reasons we have the NEC.

Insinuating that splicing a wire is a "short cut" and a potential fire hazard is BS. Get a clue...

There is absolutely nothing wrong or illegalwith splicing a wire in a junction box, etc if done properly. Polaris or Burndy insulated taps are one method of splicing wire.

Here is the situation:

Main panel is to the right, and wires reach to about the window.

Take off the Lb, put a large jct box, like 12" by 12" in it's place and buy a piece of wire to go from box to box.

Me too,replace LB with JB!

Simple:

A decent sized junction box (12x12x6, etc.)

3 - #3 split bolts

1 - Roll 3M 130C Rubber Splicing Tape

1 - Roll 3M 33+ Tape

Nothing to it....

Yea those burndy style mechanical splices are nice i prefer them over splits
