Anybody know what this is?

Has a spring loaded blade, & weird tip profile.
Spring has not much strength & blade pushes into handle easily.

I have seen a few of those in other brands. An old Mac Sabina comes to mind. It also extended just like that.

I think it could be a tappet screwdriver like letter F shown here in this Snap On catalog. The old catalogs are a great resource for mystery tools.

It is for adjusting overhead valves. Since they are adjusted with the engine running the blade will move with the rocker inside the handle and the "spurs" at each side of the blade keep the blade from slipping off the adjusting screw.

It's a cable punch down tool - probably for something in the telephone industry - but I have no idea what cable would require a blade that large.



Is the blade removable? Many of the punch down kits have different blades for different applications.

Ok that makes sense.
Did the spurs sort of fit to the left & right of a slotted adjusting screw?
Wasn't a box wrench around a lock nut involved as well?
(Been a long time since I had something without hydraulic valves)

Yes I use that Snap-On site a lot.
The one at that page is a fixed/Non-Spring type.

Yes it was a straight slotted screw with a hex lock nut. The spurs were each side of the screw. You did need a box wrench for the lock nut.

This one had me stumped for a while, but now I think I know what it is...
It's not "vintage", but frankly, I forgot where I put the several other things I was going to add to this thread, so take a look.....

About 16" in length.
1/2" socket drive, male & female. Has 360 degrees on a disc.
On top of that is a rotating piece with a pointer/ thumb screw.
Flexible cable (like a lawn mower throttle cable) with a alligator clip.
No brand name stamping or model numbers.

Dang, that was quick.
I showed it to a mechanic friend & he had no idea.
(he's a young pup that is making payments on a Torque-angle that beeps & vibrates & whatnot.

Here is a MAC Tools goober.
Stamped S 107 7/8
22-1/2" long
The 12 point box end sticks out at a right angle about 3".
The tip is too blunt to be a good pry bar.
Any ideas in age or function?

There is an offer on the German EBay for one. They call it an alignment wrench. The rest of the description is in German so I can't help with that.

Yep front end alignment wrench. For Buick & Olds. 1960's I believe.

I am close to Lancaster PA, so this KD Tool is still close to home.
I have found a few ebay listings for it calling it a "spring compressor" or some such.
Looks to have a slot for a cable inside of the spring?
Can anyone shed a light on where is was used?
