I have had a 9145 adapter for my Milwaukee 6146-30 4½" grinder. The grinder is rated at 11,000 rpm and the 9145 holder and the Scotch-Brite discs are rated at 13,000 rpm. Every time I use the tool, the discs come flying off. Sometimes they hit me, others they fly offing the shop. I have found the tool useless, am I doing something wrong?!? Below are the links to the products.

I picked up a very fine, medium and coarse but this is the very fine;

Are they flying off while it's spinning and sanding/grinding or after you let off on the trigger? I know even with the small ones on a die grinder they will spin off and fly around the shop if they are not tight enough and I let off on the trigger too quick (air powered).

unless they aren't twisted in all the way or you're hitting it in such a way they are shearing off the twist lock I couldn't say what else you might be doing wrong.

That same design for backer is used for the 2" 3" and 4" on angle grinders that spin much faster without issue. My guess is you got a bad batch of abrasives if they all came in one or a bad backer pad.

The products he's using are hook and loop type attachment, not the Roloc that you guys are referring to, which is more common on die grinders.

I ended up emailing 3M. They called back and have a replacement 9145 Disc Backer on the way. Looks like the backers hook attachment was not robust enough to handle the spinning, a newer version resolved the flying off issue. Thanks for the input. When tools don't work, it *****.
