Should I get the Genuine 3M or do you think the Weldcote knockoffs are just as good?

Genuine 3M made in USA.

Weldcote version made in Taiwan.

3M part number 04-0280-00

The only helmet I have an oem lens cover on is my old Optrel. Everything else just has the cheap welding store plastic lens as I like to be close to the puddle for some reason, I would try a few of the cheap ones and if you don't like it then spend the money on the oem ones.

The cheap ones are 5 for $10 with free shipping from eBay. Genuine 3M are $18 with free shipping.

I guess optical clarity is the main thing but how can you screw up clear plastic?

Probably the same way glass can get screwed up, cooling during production creating "waves."

Have you priced anything from Cyberweld ? They usually have decent prices.

It's $10 and a consumable, buy em. If you don't like them you are out $10, not even worth debating. Personally I can't comment on 3M hoods but we buy nothing but the cheapest plastic lense protectors at work and have never had any reason to consider anything else.

I went ahead and ordered a set of genuine 3M inside covers. $19.44 shipped for a pack of 5 off eBay.

Kind of pricey, but at least I won't have to worry about the clarity. And they're made in USA.

And you know they'll fit. 3M can't just use a flat plate like old helms.
