I would like to convert a single switch in a bathroom to a 3-way switch. With everything finished and vanity in place can I run the new wire form the existing switch through the back of vanity cabinet using aa flex cable and still meet code?

Installing the like this will avoid running through cold air return and having to drill through the floor and fish for the wire on both ends.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

This one. Why anyone would ever wire a 3 way switch ever again is beyond me. Put a Maestro wireless where your existing switch is. Put a Lutron Pico switch with a wall plate on the wall wherever you want the second switch. Done.
Get them at your local electrical supply store. They'll have them in stock.

should still meet code if its metal clad wire..which is what i assume you mean when you say flex but always good to specify.

Possibly because $50 for a 3 way switch is pretty expensive.. For a retrofit that could make sense if you can't get a new wire in..

Because one has access to the areas they want switches and already have the wire? Won't cost what that one will.

The OP noted it's a FINISHED bathroom. He also says that would have to run new wires. Maybe my reading comprehension is bad. I dont know. I'm kinda old & tired. But that tells me that he is doing a retrofit.
He's not clear on where he wants to put the second switch, but my time is worth more than $50 for fishing wires and cutting holes in walls.
