Is my grinder salvagable?

It was working fine, noticed a slight dip in the RPM's when running free. It picked up to the normal sounding RPMs.

Went to grind some iron and it kind of hickupped a couple times then slowwed way down and ultimately stopped.

It is not locked up. It does nothing now.

I did not notice any "majic smoke" being dispelled and it does not have that buned ozone smell we all are familiar with when it involves electrical items.

Just wondering if I should waste my time tearing into it or if any others have an idea what went on.

As usuall, thanks in advance

I'm not too well versed in the function of electric motors. Is bad brushes a symptom of rpm change and no run?

I'll check them in the morning if I get some time.

Thanks

in short, yes... You are usually spitting the chunks of the last bits of carbon from the brushes out of the holder causing a chaotic last 30 seconds before not running anymore. The other usual symptom is a dust cloud from the fan ports, but if you are using the grinder, you usually don't see this part.

Check the brushes should be little black caps on the side unscrew and if there is next to nothing left replace them.

you may have to take the case apart if your grinder doesn't have the little black caps to remove. its still not difficult. You can probably find a repair shop to do it... still be a lot cheaper than a new metabo

If you don't want to replace them yourself, and can't find a tool repair shop, I think a vacuum repair shop should be able to do brushes as well.

I rebuild my metabo grinder last year. It was pretty easy to do. I also changed out the power cord at the same time. If you know how to use a screwdriver, you should be able to do the job with no issues.

It is completely hopeless. Send it to me for disposal. :) I love my Metabo grinder, definitely worth fixing. Should be a easy fix.
