I bought some sockets at a garage sale and there is a 4.5mm socket. Just wondering what is that used for on vehicles?

No offence that's about as broad as what's a 4mm, or a 5/16, or 1.5" socket is used for.

But to guess at an application Id say dash or wire fasteners. Small electronics like an Xbox or play station. Etx

They're used for Hi-Lo screws that are used for threading into plastic.

i use that size all the time under dashes for heater core and/or evaporator work, very common on many domestics.

I think newer GM trucks use it under the dash. And IIRC maybe the 4.0L Jeep cam sensor that mounts where the dizzy used to go?

I repair a lot of things and I use the small metric in clock repair all the time. Many of the brass nuts that hold the hands on or he plates on the clocks use them. My grand father clock uses a 5mm on the hands and I have several wall clocks that use the 4 and 4.5.
Remember there are a lot of electric panels that have very small nuts and bolts. Automotive repair is a very small part of the industrial world. The are also used in model making and steam engines, rail road model making and a host of other things. If you work on cars you must think outside your box Some of my fine machinist tools and equipment have small metric and SAE nuts and bolts. Even computers have them.

4.5 mm socket was used for headlamp alignment on Ford cars and trucks 80's,90's and up.Also as previously stated on TFI modules. Hope this helps.

I seem to using that size on adjusting headlights on a few vehicles. I'm thinking Ford, Toyota, and maybe S10 pick ups from GM.
