Anyone know of a 3.75"/4.75" sink drain before i resort to ordering a chunk of bronze snd spending a few hours in front of a lathe. The modern 3.5/4.5 are too small in diameter actually seal.

Std 3.5" in a 3.75 hole. The 4.5" flange only hits on the outer edge and can't seal.

Original that was split/cracked. I'd have kept it and tried to braze/solder it back together had I known it was non (modern) stansard sized.

The room is designed and built around the sink so it's not changing.

plumbers putty packed in won't help make it work?

No, tried that already. The sink hole is at a decent angle there. 20230729_221256.jpg

it only hits the outside of the rim of the flange and squishes the putty right out the bottom. I tried to roll the flange match the angle but cracked the drain flange long before ingot to where I wanted to be.

just thinking back to my childhood. we had a cast iron porcelain kitchen sink, my dad made a new strainer assembly for it. he made everything he could. never buy it if you can make it. it had a deep drain too. I bet it would have fit , and it was all turned out of brass . sadly it's long gone LOL . about 1985 he put in a new sink & countertops

Yeah those are the std 3.5". They will fit a 4" hole if it's a flat sink flange only.
I tried. 🤷‍♂️

You think with the resurgence of old farmhouse sinks over the past few years this would be a more common issue with a solution.

Instead of metal, can you use white 3” SCH40 PVC pipe, heat the end to flare out, use your lathe to true, then plumbers putty and glue?

Won’t be as attractive as metal.

I could likely, but as you mentioned it wouldn't be attractive. I remembered I had this bearing bronze drop in my scrap pile, and it lookes like a good candidate for a flange.

If I was adventurous I'd buy a brass strainer and cut the flange, then silver solder it to the ring. I'm not that inclined currently. 20230802_134333.jpg20230802_134307.jpg
