My local HVAC supplier has a thimble that has an integral discharge "spout" shaped like a clamshell. They use it for tankless HW heaters. It has the dble wall pipe as part of the assembly, 170.00$
Is this type of discharge safe?

In a normal 35.00 thimble does the pipe go through the thimble OR is it a male/ female setup?
