considering 4-point sockets...

Not sure if these were ever available from Sears/Craftsman (USA).

Soooo, have to go with a different brand:shocking:

1. Quality wise, what's the difference between Sunex and Grey Pneumatic?

2. Why would one prefer chrome over grey/black?

Grey Pneumatic 1211P 3/8 inch Drive Pipe Plug Socket Set
$55.65 / sale = $26.99

Grey Pneumatic 1308P 1/2 inch Drive Pipe Plug Impact Socket Set
$60.37 / sale = $29.99

SK has the same sets in chrome for $102 each.

SK Tools 19781 11 Piece 3/8" Drive Pipe Plug Socket Set
ID/SKU: SKT19781

SK Tools 19798 8 Piece 1/2" Drive Male Pipe Plug Socket Set
ID/SKU: SKT19798

Summit racing has the 11-piece and 8-piece sets by SUNEX for
$54.97 and $51.97 but the 8-piece 1/2"-drive set is 4-male and 4-female.

The 11-piece set by Snap-On is list $190. Not sure what it would be off the truck. Not sure if they have the 8-piece set in 1/2"-drive but if both together are over $300...wow.

I have had that sk set in my ebay cart for a while. I use the HF now, but want the female ones. HF only has male and hex.

Mac also has a good set for around $100.

I recently picked up a 7 piece set of Williams 8 point sockets (when I needed one size for one project removing old square head lag screws, and probably could have made due with a 12 point. It's a sickness). The usual Williams almost Snap-On quality, for $30.

In as far as the female 4pt sockets you have linked to (contained in some of the sets), you can get Craftsman 8pt chrome sets on Ebay very cheap. They are probably one of Craftsman's longest made sockets. They work perfectly for square plugs etc. In as far as the male 4pt sockets, I would have no problem trusting Grey or Sunex and I consider them equals. For situations like these I would actually prefer an impact socket over a chromed socket. Side learance is not usually an issue with square and plug fittings and some plugs can be very hard to break loose without using an impact wrench.
