I have a off shore import 4 post I bought in 2017 and keep it outside on the apron of my detached garage/shop. I keep the motor on the hyd unit covered but never bothered with covering the plastic reservoir for the fluid. I noticed the other day a small crack in one corner allowing a leak. Is this a common problem from UV rays being outside?

Most likely, yes
UV will affect plastic.
Replace it with a metal tank

Mine is outside. Original tank lasted about a year. Got a new tank and wrapped it with aluminum tape. It's been like that for 8 years now...

Thx vhol5, I rcvd a new plastic tank yesterday and after installing it I wrapped alum foil around it, then a white large trash bag. I think I'll make a thin gauge alum sleeve to pull up over it.

Aluminum tape, the kind used in HVAC, is what I used. VERY durable stuff! No other cover needed.

This is a relatively cheap ($2K) offshore import 4-post via Best Buy in Temecula,Ca. I borrowed a car trailer and picked it up, put it together myself. No problems until this happened. I got the replacement tank from Auto Lift Parts ($99) but it's available from several places including Amazon. I didn't check but assume Bend Pak would be a few more $$$$.
