4-Post Lift Install Questions

Hi All,

I recently purchased a ProPark 8S 4-post lift from Greg Smith Equipment Co. This unit uses a ladder-lock system. Set it up this weekend and am pleased with my purchase. I did have a few questions that I hope others might be able to help with.

1) My garage floor has a very slight slope to it, especially near the entrance. Thus, the two pillars closest to entry are not exactly plumb. they are not far enough off that I experience any binding but I was wondering if I need to get them closer to 100%. If so, how would you recommend I shim them (and using what material).

2) After doing it a few times, I think I got the leveling of the ladders spot on. When I lower the lift onto the locks they all engage simultaneously and there is no play in any of them. I am less clear about leveling the ramps with the cables and suspect I am thinking about it wrong.

When raised up off the locks, I am level side to side. Front to rear it is slightly off level (probably due to the slope of the floor). The edge of the bubble is just over the line with the front slightly higer than the rear. I tightened up the rear cables thinking that this would thus raise the rear up higher. Even when I tightened them all the way, it does not seem to move the bubble very much at all. The only effect was that when raising the ramps, the rear starts lifting sooner than the front but it ultimately settles at same slope. I thus went with the approach of eyeballing thisgs so that it appears as if all four corners raise evenely and simultaneously. But again, do not know if this is right or what I am actually trying to get level via the cables.

Thanks.

What you have done leveling the ladders, locks, ramps, etc. seems to work OK, then go with it. Check it after a few weeks of use. If you start to shim the posts, you will create more of a monster than you already have. Even a 1/4" from front to rear is generally acceptable to me, not that I am the final word. If it doesn't wobble and you feel safe, then it is safe. Very few garage floors are dead on level.
