I have decided to go with the Bendpak HD-9 series of lifts. Any recommendation on who to buy from? I have talked with a few local places with no great deals plus sales tax and shipping is not an issues since I have access to the equipment to unload the lift.

Got mine from Dave Shedlock at Workshop Depot. Got his name from someone on this forum. Great experience, great service before the sale, during the install and after the sale.

One time I had a question and he picked up his cell phone at SEMA and walked me through what I was trying to do.

Free shipping on lifts.

The HD-9XW was my first choice, but after looking at the dimensions I'm not sure I really need the extra height since my ceiling is about 10'-6" and the wheelbase on my Impala is about the same as my Terrain. The long distance just seems to eat up more space and the width should be OK on the standard version even on a full size P/U. Please correct me if I'm wrong on my assumptions.

For those reading i bought the DIRECT LIFT (mfg in China
Designed/Owned by ROTARY) includes wheel kit
and am quite pleased with.

If cost was same I might have bought BENDPAK
but some buyers are cost conscious and the DIRECT
LIFT is not inferior

For those in Western OR or WA state I picked
mine up in Portland and paid no shipping or
sales tax

No such thing as free shipping on a big heavy
Item like a lift. Its either in the price or the
cost is lower

I looked at the direct lifts, but when I added the shipping cost it came out more than the Bendpak.

My Bendpak HD-9XW (M) ships next week. All black. Also purchased from workshop depot. I looked at the Direct Lift but wanted 220v.

I have a BendPak HD9 too. If you cant get an RJ45 right away then at least get one jacking tray for now, so you can still do suspension work. Anyway, I've had great experiences working with the folks at Garage Equipment Supply.

It might be overkill, but I wanted to also make sure there are ALI certified which ruled out the Atlas lifts and they can't get the Pro Parks there.

Good to hear about GES. I'm going to measure this weekend and see if I really need the wide version, if not the jack JP-3 is cheap and I will just buy it now.

Anyone use a 9ST or 9STX with a full size pickup? This would be few and far between but the center to center on the wheels might be a little wider than my Impala or Terrain.

Has anyone used the HD-9ST or the HD-STX on a full sized pick up truck before? It looks like the outside tire measurement would be around 80" and the outside of the runway is about 75-1/2". Is a little overhang a band thing? If I used the lift once every other year for a truck that might be pushing it. I'm just looking at the increase in the lift (small), increase in the jack plate (JP-3 vs. JP-6) and then the larger footprint leading me to the STX.

LB,

On narrow four posts like the ST and STX models, (and I'm sure other brands) you should focus on the Drive Thru Clearance. (See "M" Ref.) Typically the Drive-thru Clearance (where the cross tube end plates are) is just barely wider than the max outside width of the runways.

The photo below is our HD-9 with runways positioned wide.

Thanks for the picture! With only 76" I would be SOL with the truck. I'm guessing this is not the rev. M version since the left side has the extra space (116" wide vs. the 110").

You are correct. A Rev. M would have the same spacing/clearance that is shown on the right runway (lift with truck above) for both runways.

After looking over my garage layout, it looks like the HD-9XW is my choice along with the JP-6. Now I just need to find the best deal out there. My local sources and the smaller online sites are a few hundred more than the rest.

Other than the color upgrade at no cost is there any more programs or discounts we should be aware of?

Are there two different drive on ramps to pick from other than the steel vs. aluminum?

With regards to the ramps, if you have the room, just leave them on and stay with the stock metal ones, and use the included adapters that allow the ramps to stay almost perfectly in alignment with the ramps. This makes using the lift so much easier to use ALL the time (and allows you to save your money for other lift accessories). I'd only get the aluminum ones if you're going to need to constantly take them on and off.

This is going to be more of a storage lift than maintenance. I would just like the lifts to not be something I hit my head one when I walk but in the dark. So if they can stay up high enough I have no problem just leaving them on.

I have a HD-9XW as I recommended to you. With the ramps left on and the included brackets I have no problem with my head hitting/clearing them. I'm 6.1 foot.

I just wanted to point out one other thing about the ramps. The only other reason to get the aluminum ramps though would be if you had a really low car. Keep in mind that besides being much lighter ramps (16 vs 42 pounds for the steel ones) the aluminum ones are also 6" longer. You'll appreciate the longer ramp length, especially if you think you'll be storing Vette's or other low cars.

By the way, besides using the JP-6 as a jacking tray, it makes a great place to put your oil drain container, parts, tools, and position your work light too. I would also recommend getting an RJ-45 so that you truly have a lift that gives you all the flexibility of a 2 post (maintenance wise). Plus you'll find that an RJ-45 makes using the JP-6 a LOT easier, especially since you'll never use it again to actually jack up anything - just as a jack stand tray. Here's what I mean. I keep my JP-6 at the rear of the lift and my RJ-45 at the front. When I need to rotate tires or do brakes all around, I just slide my RJ-45 to the rear and lift it up, so I can quickly place jack stands on my JP-6 and then lower my RJ-45, so the rear of the car is now resting on jack stands. I then move the RJ-45 to the front and raise the front. It's really that simple. I never even bought bottle jacks since I knew this was going to be the perfect set up for me. The only thing I have left to add to my lift is an AK-14 air line kit for the RJ-45, since it is a bit of a hassle having to use my shops one air line for the lift itself and also for the RJ-45.

Hey, I just noticed that your post says lifts. Are you planning on getting 2 of them?

Make sure you reach out to Garage Equipment Supply. They were great to deal with before, and even after, my purchase. Very courteous and professional staff and they know their products really well. Plus, they sell a ton of other garage related equipment too.

I ended up buying from them too. I will wait and see how things go after it arrives and the install goes before I post comments. I by all means found the best prices with them, but you have to call and not do it via email.

You will love it! I just dropped the RJ-45 on two days ago and have my dodge quad cab 2500 long bed torn into :) It's a nice lift. I threw an album up on my profile with some pics of the install. I used a guy who did this for a living and he was in and out in about 3 hours. Enjoy!
