4 post lift... what does an optional 24v control box do?

I'm looking at several 4 post lifts. Some come with an optional 24v control box. What does it do differently that it is an optional item?

It's probably a point to tie in a wireless remote or other such accessory. Can you provide a manual or model info to verify?

I don't know (don't have a 4 post lift), but has it got something to do with manual or automatic safety release (before lowering the lift)?
