Hey Folks,

Just had this Challenger 4 post installed and on a test attempt, the button to raise the lyft got stuck and it kept moving up.

Luckily I was quick to realize it and pulled the lever down which though stopped it but scared the **** out of me.

The Installer looked at the motor and said everything was fine and it was just a freak accident

So question is, how can one prevent this from happening again? Has anyone heard of Limit switch?

I had mine stick on once, and it was basically a clearance issue in the button (if you pressed it a little to one side it could bind). I bent part of the button system a little to take care of it, but the lift manufacturer was quick to mail me another so I swapped it out.

If you put some side load on the button when you press it, does it stick? Might just take a small adjustment to the switch...

I've seen it before on many different brands of lifts. I like to install a disconnect switch just above the motor so I can kill power if it happens. I also use it to kill power once lowered on the locks if I have a jackstand under the hitch on a pickup for example. It keeps me from getting in a hurry and letting the rack down without removing the stand.

The lifts at work have these disconnects, like an outside AC unit or hot tub would have. It looks like a breaker but it's actually a switch. My home lift has the disconnect with the side lever so I don't have to open the box. 1529602943539.jpeg

Others have installed an E-Stop in the circuit.

E-stop?

Another option is to wire two buttons in series, which would require pressing both. The chance of both sticking is slim...
