I am sure the answer to this question is buried in numerous discussion threads, but given that I am in a bit of a hurry I'm simply going to post the question directly. I have a 7000 W generator that is capable of putting out 220 V 30 amp power. The 220v 30 amp outlet is a four prong outlet with an L prong. I need to use the generator to power a Mitshu Mr. Slim AC system for testing. It requires 220v 30 amp power. I purchased a four prong plug that it's the receptacle on my generator. I need to wire standard 220 V three wire to the four prong. Which prongs do the three wires go to?

I forgot to mention that the plug I purchased to wire on has yellow white green and what appears to be an X mark for the four prongs

Sounds like you have a NEMA 14-30 plug, like this:

The bent plug is the white or neutral wire, which the a/c unit doesn't need. Green is ground, the Y and X are the two hot wires.

Many that I have seen are NEMA L14-30.
A twistlock outlet.
Has kinda an "L" prong on the ground?
As on all twistlocks, the prong with the "L" which is also the longest prong, is the ground. ;)

I didn't think of a twistlock, I agree it could be one. Either way, for your connection to the a/c unit you don't need the neutral wire.
