Mostly 5 star and over 1200 reviews, on sale for cyber Monday, I just paid $40 for second jump pack, this one for wife's car. Seems weird that these products exist in clusters every $40 up to more than $200, and while its a no brainer that the expensive ones are better, I have no concern that this cheap one won't do all I need it to do.

I bought a few jump packs for like $27 each direct from China 2 years ago. I tested one, and surprisingly it was able to start a 6.0L V8 engine 10 times on a single charge. I tore apart the packs and used the batteries for some projects, but I was pretty surprised that they actually worked. I bet the cells would not survive very long if you discharged them nearly all the way, but the charging/balancing circuitry worked fine, and they were able to start a good size engine. (the engine didn't have any other battery hooked up to it, it was started purely off the jump pack).

For an "emergency only" type scenario, I think the cheapie jump packs are just fine.

May fall under safety is for sissies..........

Discharge and charging circuit protection is a critical part that maybe be missing on the no name, supper cheap or counterfeit packs that a very very common.

First sign of failure is bulging cases. Second is smoke. Third is fire as the pack goes into melt down. Failure from over current in use or charging.

So it’s buyer beware...........

Going by Amazon, there are maybe 30 to 50 brands of jump packs. My first pack from a couple years ago, a cheap Soaki doesn't appear to be still sold on Amazon, mine has worked fine with no issues. No idea why its not sold, it had a lot of good reviews, as I mentioned in my first post the one I just bought for $40 had 1200 mostly positive reviews. Some bad reviews are about failed units, about half are failed users.

What exactly are the expensive name brands selling? I can buy 3x of the one I bought and have it still cheaper than the same rated size Noco, which has a shorter warranty.

Project Farm does some nice reviews, but the weak point is that they are testing ONE device of each brand type, and my bet is that every brand and model has some variation in quality.

Buy cheap, but only models with plenty of good reviews and a decent warranty. Hint on quality is that Amazon wants $7 to make the warranty 3 years, money back usually no questions asked. Effectively its $2.35/ year to rent a working jump box.

Whatever you buy TEST IT, cycle the charge in the battery a couple times. I plan to routinely leave mine out and use the phone charging power bank function to discharge the pack.
